Taiwan Jones: EWU needs Field Turf
Although there aren't enough games to gauge by it, the games TJ has played and common sense would argue that a speed-back would be more effective on Field Turf instead of the sloppy grass field EWU currently has.
So far in the 6 games he's played against FCS competition, 4 of them were on natural grass (EWU and Sac), for an average of 101 yards per game. Counting only home games on our sloppy grass, his numbers dip even lower to 71.3 yards per game. In the 2 games on Field/Sprint Turf (ISU and UM), Jones averaged 156.5 yards per game. I'll be very interested to see how he does this weekend against PSU in Seattle at Qwest Field... the nicest field he'll play on this year.
I've heard rumors that talks inside the Athletic Department have concerned EWU getting RED Field Turf (take that Boise State!) for the betterment of the Program as a whole, and to best utilize Taiwan's amazing speed and talent while we have him. I sure hope they do it soon.

As terrible as that may sound, just this weekend on Versus, I watched Coastal Carolina at Stony Brook, and I thought the red numbers on the field looked pretty cool.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote: I've heard rumors that talks inside the Athletic Department have concerned EWU getting RED Field Turf (take that Boise State!)

I'm pretty sure that the NCAA came out after Boise got their turf, and said no other colors of fieldturf were going to be allowed other than Green.

Boise's blue is really kinda gaudy if you're actually there, I think red would be absolutely hidious.
Re: Taiwan Jones: EWU needs Field Turf
Not true, according to Wiki:DJH wrote:I'm pretty sure that the NCAA came out after Boise got their turf, and said no other colors of fieldturf were going to be allowed other than Green.
Blue turf myths
There are many myths about the blue turf. Three of the most prevalent are:
There is an NCAA rule banning turf colors other than green, but BSU's field is allowed to remain blue under a grandfather clause.
The NCAA has no such rule; any school may paint its field any color other than green if it wishes. Though painting the end zones is common, and schools have wide latitude in how to do so, until 2009 only BSU had chosen a non-green color for the field itself. NCAA Division II University of New Haven became the second NCAA institution to install and compete on blue turf for the 2009 season.[13]
Mistaking it for water, birds have flown into the blue turf.
This has never been confirmed. In 2007, Broncos coach Chris Petersen claimed to have found a dead duck on the field, though it is unclear whether or not the duck had mistaken the turf for water.[14]
The Nebraska Cornhuskers "Sea of Red" was the main inspiration for the blue turf.
This has also never been confirmed. In 1986 Athletic Director Gene Bleymaier brainstormed the idea flying home from the NCAA convention and decided if the school was going to pay $750,000 for a new playing surface, it was going to be blue. "I was just thinking about what we could do and how disappointed I was going to be if we just put in another green field we had seen for 15 years," Bleymaier said.

False. The NCAA has no such rule.DJH wrote:I'm pretty sure that the NCAA came out after Boise got their turf, and said no other colors of fieldturf were going to be allowed other than Green.
The University of New Haven (CT), recently put in a blue turf field as well.

I'm saying "other than the blue turf", no other colors are allowed. I thought I saw this rule once.

The field can be any color, the only thing the NCAA designates is that all line markings, etc. must be white.DJH wrote:I'm saying "other than the blue turf", no other colors are allowed. I thought I saw this rule once.
Re: Taiwan Jones: EWU needs Field Turf
Yeah Bentley College has blue turf as well.
Like stated, the only rule is that the lines and boundary markers must be white.
My school was considering doing maroon turf actually. Would be cool for a short period of time.

I just made a quick draft of what it might look like... I think it looks BITCHIN'!93henfan wrote:As terrible as that may sound, just this weekend on Versus, I watched Coastal Carolina at Stony Brook, and I thought the red numbers on the field looked pretty cool.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote: I've heard rumors that talks inside the Athletic Department have concerned EWU getting RED Field Turf (take that Boise State!)

That does look pretty sweet. Doubt the University will see it that way though. But who knows. I'd definitely like to see it.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:I just made a quick draft of what it might look like... I think it looks BITCHIN'!93henfan wrote:

I drafted that up going off what I heard... red field, black endzones, and white lettering/numbers.Willie wrote:That does look pretty sweet. Doubt the University will see it that way though. But who knows. I'd definitely like to see it.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:

It might be sick to have white endzones with black lettering.

Artificial turf is for pu$$ies.
Real football can only be played outdoors, on real grass.
(haha, no. I don't truly believe that. I'm just mocking the anti-dome crowd)

This is basically what my school had in mind about our field.

Once I saw the picture, yes.DJH wrote:Do you guys honestly think that would look good/be a good idea? That looks absolutely terrible.
You're just sore because the addition of purple field turf would require sit down only toilets in all the facilities.

I'd change the name first, then add the colored turf.Willie wrote:This is basically what my school had in mind about our field.

Nah, I'm just kidding.Willie wrote:Don't like the Cobbers nickname?kalm wrote:I'd change the name first, then add the colored turf.
If I were a fan of the Cobbers, I'm sure I'd be waiting with anticipation after every TD for the ear-of-corn mascot to triumphantly sound the ancient horn-of-oxen call to the fields for the annual shucking orgy, a la the viking mascot from Portland State.
Somehow, 'the c'mon lads, let's down to the village to protect our women and children or rape their's' is a little more symbolic than 'off to the fields to shuck the (&%# out of that corn! '

I heard Sac State is having field turf installed after this season and it will be ready for next season.

Re: Taiwan Jones: EWU needs Field Turf
I've been in Boise's stadium a couple times now, it really hurts the the eyeballs. The red seats in Utah's stadium can be a bit bothersome, I would hate to see a whole field in red, I think it might even be worse than the smurf turf.

Too bad Jones will have to wait another 2 years to put up 200 yards on it!

That should be a rule. Boise's turf is the most fugly shite I have ever seen.DJH wrote:I'm pretty sure that the NCAA came out after Boise got their turf, and said no other colors of fieldturf were going to be allowed other than Green.
