New UNI uniforms
Re: New UNI uniforms
I'm pretty sure I was wrong on what uniform UNI chose. I was trying to put 1 and 1 together...Well, the uniforms still have yet to be announced BUT a couple pictures did pop up on my twitter feed that leads me to believe that UNI didn't go with #4 like I thought.
The pictures were of the black pants and the back of the helmet
I don't know what to think of the pants - other than I don't like the fact they put yellow on black. I HATE that, and I'm sure many UNI fans will. It is very Hawkeye in the look. **** the Hawkeyes.
Based on the pattern on the pants I think that I was wrong with thinking we were going with the WVU uniform. That digital pattern seems to match the new Arizona uniforms (the first 3 options). Really no one on facebook was a fan of that. Though, when I look at the Arizona uniform set, their pants don't include that pattern...

Since when did black become one of UNI's school colors? I thought they were the same as JMU- purple and gold.clenz wrote:Back in June the athletic department at UNI announced we will be using new helmets and jerseys this year, but we have yet to see them - and won't until the first game as we didn't have them for media day.
This has led many fans trying to figure out what they will look like. Putting 1 and 1 together it's safe to say we know what they will be.
They posted a photo of the new matte helmet, along with saying we will be using white helmets as well.
Shortly after that photo they posted renderings of the possible choices (poorly done renderings).
It's also been announced that we will bring back black pants, to go with our white and purple pants this year....which means our new uniforms have a decent amount of black in them.
Today I was looking through new uniforms for the coming year and came across WVU's uniforms and it clicked. We went with #4 from the options....
Just put UNI's colors in the WVU uniform...

Why wouldn't UNI ever use a gold helmet?clenz wrote:Gold pants on the home uniforms are a no without a gold helmet - which UNI will never wear
I had a similar combo in high school, and a purple helmet with it would have been terrible.

We've done the gold jersey for homecoming. Looks terrible. That was back with old gold for the color though. The big downside to our current yellow is it's to close to university of Iowa and Iowa State to use too much of and still be our own.
I'll see if i can find a photo of that uniform
Why would UNI use yellow? I just looked real quick on wiki and it says UNI's colors are purple and gold. Is that wrong?

Yep. Had this debate on the JMU boards about 3 times in the last 2 years. JMU wore black for one home game vs UR in 12' as a one time thing where the jerseys were then auctioned off. Worked out, as UR was ranked top 10 at the time and JMU won 31-7 with a backup QB.ASUMountaineer wrote:White unis have been an accepted away color for unis for decades. Some people wanted to go to wearing black for at least one game every season. I thought the jerseys looked ok, but was in the traditionalist camp of lets not jump on the bandwagon of wearing black even though its not one of our school colors like so many schools have done over the previous decade, and to stick to the school colors of purple and gold, with white to be only worn on away games.

But, white has been an accepted jersey color, despite not being a "school color" for decades. Black, on the other hand, is a new fad for schools without black as a school color.
With all of that said, I still don't see why you brought up white jersey to counter the use of black jerseys. Especially, when it seems like you agree that a purple-and-gold school wearing black is ridiculous.

I'm with you. I think App's grey alternate jerseys look good this year, but I don't like not wearing a school color for the alternate. No, actually, I don't have a problem with wearing black (for home games). I consider both black and white to be "neutral" colors, when it comes to things such as uniform pants and the like. And their use as a supplementary color on jerseys too, but the use of white as a predominant jersey color should be reserved for road jerseys, and the use of black as a predominant jersey color should be reserved for home jerseys (as determined by the football rulebook).ASUMountaineer wrote:Agreed.JayJ79 wrote: wearing white on the home jerseys seems just as "wrong" as wearing black.

Why UNI switched to the yellow I don't know. The official school colors are listed as purple and gold. I don't know why we made the switch to yellow gold instead of old gold. I would much rather have the old gold. The yellow gold (especially when put with shitty black uniforms) looks just like the fucking Hawkeyes.
As for the black issue - there is much contention between the UNI fan base over the use of black. It was used heavily with the football team from 2000 until the 2011 season
I honestly didn't hate the look. Then I saw how nice the purple top white pant looks
However, UNI's athletic director has come out and said that they are making a strong move away from black and into only purple, yellow, and white.
To see black come back as, apparently, a full time-ish thing is disappointing.
As a one off, sure. Not full time.

NFL always wore dark at home with the exception of Dallas (and when the Eagles played Dallas at home), but now many wear white (some are going back to dark at home like the Skins)...
NHL always wore white at home, now they wear dark.
I loved what happened at the USC/UCLA game a couple years ago when USC decided to wear their home unis and were penalized a timeout so Neuheisel squared things up by calling timeout before the opening kickoff.
Re: New UNI uniforms
I was wrong about being wrong...but still kind of wrong.
We are going with the WVU look, though with the UNI on the front. Thankfully isn't not nearly as cheesey as it looked in the mock up.
White Top
No picture of the purple top yet, or of the white or purple pants.
I would be the purple top will be white numbers outlined in yellow with the purple on the sides of the white being black with the black pants. Though I'm still confused as to the color design of the black pants and the jersey design.

White Top
No picture of the purple top yet, or of the white or purple pants.
I would be the purple top will be white numbers outlined in yellow with the purple on the sides of the white being black with the black pants. Though I'm still confused as to the color design of the black pants and the jersey design.
Re: New UNI uniforms
Instgram photo from starting running back David Johnson from the jersey reveal video shoot today.

Apparently wearing black pants with the white top. Another photo from the shoot showed the purple with the white.
I have a feeling we are going with a different look every game...

Re: New UNI uniforms
unveil video came out for the road jerseys today.
They look freaking sharp as hell. Not sure about the black pants with white top...but I may change my mind with the black pants with purple top after seeing them.

Also, from some quotes by AD Dannen it sounds as though each week the team will vote on what combo to wear (white/purple/black pants and maybe purple/black jersey). He made it sound like the early front runner from the team for home is purple on purple on purple.
Have yet to see the purple tops. I'm sure the video for those comes out next Friday before the first home game.
