Who are your transfers?
There was probably a thread on this a couple of months ago, but people have gotten more since then. JMU has added 2 in the last week, both 3 star rSr from UNC that are going to grad school. So who are yours?

Re: Who are your transfers?
Mostly copying and pasting from JMU board. Most transfers for JMU since at least the last 13-14 years.
-Vad Lee: 3 star rSo QB transfer from Georgia Tech, 6'1"/215. Started for GT last season running the triple option, and was slated to start for them this season. Last season as a starter completed 45.6 percent of his passes, throwing for 1,561 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, but most triple option passing is on obvious passing down 3rd and long. Rushed for 513 yds, 8 Tds. 182 carries, 2.8 yds per carry. But that includes 168 yds in losses, mostly sacks.

McNeese State enlisted Nate Holms, RB, Arkansas and Derrick Milton, RB, Mississippi State. Also, there are reports that they will enlist Daniel Sams, QB, Kansas State. We'll see on that one. He is definitely transferring from Kansas State and McNeese seems to make some sense since he is the nephew of former McNeese standout B.J. Sams.

Ok it's been confirmed that Sams of Kansas State transferred to McNeese and there are a couple of others. Cornerback Jermaine Antoine (TCU) and tight end DeonDré Skinner (Houston, Tulane). I think it's kind of an unusual number of I-A/FBS transfers for McNeese. We'll see how it works out.

Word on the street is that Blake Rankin is now enrolled at the school. He'll be a back up and there is no guarantee that he will beat out Joe Walker in '15 but at least it gives us a safety valve should Hurley get hurt again...and with our OL and Hurley's history, he will get hurt again.bluehenbillk wrote:Delaware...................................................................![]()

According to some, UD will be playing without a H.S QB recruit for the next bazillion years because, even under the new HC, we're continuing our trend of being TRANSFER QB U.

The real question is if Blake Rankin can measure up and be the next UD QB to go pro.

Re: Who are your transfers?
Don't know what to think of Sams. He got a lot of snaps last year but was kind of the "Wildcat" guy. The running QB. He was the second leading rusher on the team with 853 yards at 5.3 yards per carry. At the same time he was effective when he did throw the ball. A 71.1% completion percentage and a 153.1 QB rating.
Should be interesting. It'll be interesting to see if he ends up the starting quarterback and if not it'll be interesting to see how they use him.
Maybe they should've played him more against North Dakota State last year! He only had two rushes in that game and did not throw a pass.

Re: Who are your transfers?
You know that's the dilemma. When I look at programs that win multiple championships I get the impression that they do so mostly by recruiting high school players. Maybe some transfers but not a lot proportion wise. And if you look at teams that have gone on multiple championship runs they tend to have quarterbacks they recruited from high school. Most recently there's North Dakota State. Edwards at Appalachian State. Tracy Ham at Georgia Southern.According to some, UD will be playing without a H.S QB recruit for the next bazillion years because, even under the new HC, we're continuing our trend of being TRANSFER QB U.
When it comes to building a program I think there is something to be said for creating the impression that if you're a high school player and you go there you'll get your shot. Obviously there have been cases in which individual championships have been won with the aid of high impact transfers. But I think when you really look at programs, for the most part, history suggests you're better off if you CAN develop a program from high school recruits. For instance North Dakota State didn't have a single FBS transfer on its roster last year. Very few transfers at all and those that were there were from Division II.

Re: Who are your transfers?
We are moving away from the Transfer trend...Rankin was needed because we have 2 SR. QB's and 1 incoming HS recruit. Our previous year HS recruit has been switched to TE/HB. In fairness to brock Yacum wasn't his recruit but he honored his scholarship. Rankin will serve as a back up to Hurley this year and hopefully to Walker the next two years. Time will tell.
In regards to building a program I don't know if it's that simple. NDSU has benefitted from one of those magical recruiting classes that don't come along very often. Look at App State. In '07, with AE still having two years of eligibility left they looked pretty unbeatable. But losing that Senior class was impossible to replace. Sometimes the stars just align themselves and you get one of those classes. They don't come around very often.
Our situation, actually KC's entire tenure at UD, is hard to define. You look at '10-12 and it's a head scratcher. You have a blown call in the NC by an unqualified chain crew (I'm only stating facts not looking to belittle EWU championship but that hardly makes KC or UD fans feel any better about it) and instead of having 2 NC's he has one. Blown calls are one thing and that game shouldn't have even been that close, but to have that happen in the way it did was crazy. The next year KC made his HUGE mistake. He started listening to the fan bases complaints about transfer QB's and rather than getting one to compete for the starting job he handed it to a redshirt sophomore who had one decent game the previous year and he got hurt the first half of the first game. The rest of the year we had a very average backup QB game manage a playoff worthy team to a seven win season. That, coupled with the fourth quarter collapse in the NC put KC on the hot seat, he then took a stab at Hurley who to this point has been slightly above average, and the results were what they were.

Re: Who are your transfers?
Yeah I was thinking about it today. I do agree Delaware came real close to winning two national titles spaced a few years apart using at least one transfer QB and I think two. I THINK the guy they had for their national title was a transfer. Right?
But when I think of the programs that had dominant runs I think they did it with minimal transfer impact. Just thinking of programs that had dominant runs including consecutive titles I'm thinking Georgia Southern with four national titles 1985 - 1990 with a pair of back to backs. Youngstown State under Tressel with four national titles 1991 - 1997 including three in one four year period and two back to back. Georgia Southern again with a back to back in 2000 and 2001 (and they should've had three in a row 1999 = 2001 but lost to UMass due to having 6 turnovers in the championship game). Appalachian State with three in a row 2005 - 2007. Finally North Dakota State with the most recent three in a two.
I'm not absolutely sure about Youngstown State during it's run but I don't think they ever had any transfer QBs as their starters and my recollection is they were pretty much teams built from recruiting high school players and working them through the programs. If so I"m pretty sure all of those programs that had runs like that did it that way. I'm sure they had SOME transfers. Like I can remember Appalachian State having the receiver Quick. But my impression was that it wasn't like you'd say, "They'd never have won those championships without the transfers." They had very solid nuclei of players recruited from high school.

Re: Who are your transfers?
JMU hasn"t taken 6 transfers (5 are from BCS + a juco) since at least 2000 or 2001 (and maybe longer). Going back to 2004 I can't remember JMU ever taking more than 3.
This group has five 3 star transfers. Its not unusual for a I-AA to get 5 transfers from 4 year schools. I think it is unusual to get five 3 star transfers from BCS schools. At least 2 of them are proven with GT's starting QB Vad Lee and the WR from UNC who has been on their 2 deep the last 3 seasons and started 7 games 2 years ago. And the OL from UNC I believe has been on their 2 deep the last 3 seasons. 2 are unproven, the transfer rSo RB from Tenn and the WR from Kansas.
Getting them I think was 3 factors:
-JMU's new coach is Everett Withers, who was Ohio State's co d coordinator last season.
-The 1st one JMU brought in, Vad Lee, the only one who competed in Spring ball, I heard helped recruit the others.
-There is the strong indication that JMU will soon be moving up.
Its not like JMU is transfer U. As of now will have only 8 transfers on team from 4 year colleges (all BCS). Had 5 last season, 3 return:
-Had 2 quit (an injury plagued dud 3 star, would have been rJr from Vandy, and a 2 star OL from Marshall who started 2 of the last 3 seasons & who would have been an rSr).
-4 star rSr from MD who started for them as a rFr and has started for JMU at SS the past 2 seasons.
-3 star rSr from MD who started from JMU as WS the 1st half of last season till he went down for the rest of the season due to injury.
-An OL from Syracuse who started the 1st last 5 games of 2011 and 1st 4 of 2012 before missing the last 1.5+ seasons due to injury.
Add these 5 new ones, and of the 8, my guess is barring injury, 6-7 will be starting.

Got transfer #7, although this one is only a 2 star, and not likely to start:BDKJMU wrote:Mostly copying and pasting from JMU board.

Re: Who are your transfers?
I don't give much weight to star ratings but we (Southeastern Louisiana) have eight FBS transfers this recruiting cycle, all with 3 star ratings or higher, including two with 4 stars. Combined with two 4 stars and two 3 stars from last year, we have 12 total, to go along with a couple of more 3 stars we signed out of HS and JC.This group has five 3 star transfers. Its not unusual for a I-AA to get 5 transfers from 4 year schools. I think it is unusual to get five 3 star transfers from BCS schools.

Re: Who are your transfers?
I think for Southeastern Louisiana nowadays the question should be "who are the starters that are NOT transfers going to be."
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

We'll have a quite a few actually. At running back, WR, OL, secondary and LB. Besides, what difference does it make?JohnStOnge wrote:I think for Southeastern Louisiana nowadays the question should be "who are the starters that are NOT transfers going to be."
Re: Who are your transfers?
CB Rashad Wadood from Arizona State will be transferring to EWU. I think CB was one area that we needed help in this upcoming season so not terribly surprised.

Re: Who are your transfers?
JMU got their 8th transfer, this one from K State. Transfer #7 from a I-A, #6 from a BCS. Apparently was a walkon at K State, didn't see much of the field in 3 seasons. Listed as an OL at 6'3"/316. Has apparently played both OL and DL, and might be playing NG, maybe as a backup, in JMU's new 3-4.BDKJMU wrote:Mostly copying and pasting from JMU board.
