Defending Patriot League champion Colgate will play 10 games this year, incorporating extra rest into its schedule.

FCS teams are allowed to play 11 games in the regular season, which the Raiders did last year before they advanced to the FCS playoffs and won twice in a 9-5 campaign.

Colgate will have byes on Sept. 10 and Oct. 22. Coach Dan Hunt's squad will kick off the season at Syracuse (Sept. 2) and host only four opponents at Andy Kerr Stadium - Cornell (Oct. 1) as well as Patriot League rivals Holy Cross (Oct. 29), Lafayette (Nov. 12) and Georgetown (Nov. 19).

2016 Colgate Football Schedule

Sept. 2, at Syracuse

Sept. 17, at Yale

Sept. 24, at Richmond

Oct. 1, Cornell

Oct. 8, at Lehigh*

Oct. 15, at Bucknell*

Oct. 29, Holy Cross*

Nov. 5, at Fordham*

Nov. 12, Lafayette*

Nov. 19, Georgetown*

So 5-5 might get them in this year.

Just think how rested they would be if they didn't play at all?

Looks like Syracuse will brush them away.

They'll be better than 5-5. They only started 3 seniors vs JMU (an OL, LB, and DB). IF that QB (a poor man's John Robertson) doesn't get hurt they'll likely either win the Patriot AQ at 8-2/6-0 (were 7-4/6-0 regular season last year) or will finish 7-3/5-1 (maybe AQ, but no At large). They'll lose @ Cuse & @ UR (UR will be CAA preseason favorite). They'll beat Cornell like they did last season (Cornell was 1-9) and win @ Yale (lost 29-28 to Yale last year). They might lose a Patriot game.

Where their lack or an 11 game could hurt them is if they finish 7-3/5-1 and don't win the Patriot AQ. 7-3 out of the Patriot = no at large, where at 8-3 they'd have a shot for that 23rd/24th spot..
