I read the "Fountainhead" and identified with Howard Roark quite a bit - bucking the establishment, his disregard for glad handing and groups, etc.travelinman67 wrote:You have more in common with her than you realize.kalm wrote:Grandmother of modern conks...![]()

A much simpler theme than Atlas Shrugged. Classic collectivism v individualism.kalm wrote:I read the "Fountainhead" and identified with Howard Roark quite a bit - bucking the establishment, his disregard for glad handing and groups, etc.travelinman67 wrote:

It's the modern application of her theories that are bat shit crazy.

Shrugged carries several themes, but mostly an anti-authoritarian/robber baron message, NOT vilifying private OR public elitism so much as classes that sociopathecally seek enrichment through enslavement of others...ultimately, the villians were overtly corrupt oligarchic politicians and Wall Street.
I've always been puzzled how the Progs allowed themselves to (unknowingly) become the weapon against Rand's message; albeit, synonymously supportive of the worker/work product.
P.S. Wake Up...

Did she hate Adam Smith?
Did she realize that Oligarchy is just as likely if not more to come from the political right?

Me neither.GannonFan wrote:I'll be the first one to admit that I've never read an Ayn Rand book and honestly have no idea what people are talking about when they discuss her ideas and the applications to economic theory. One day I am going to read her and try to figure out why she has so many Conks and why so many more Donks are so obsessed with her.
Fact?Pwns wrote:I find liberals making fun of Rand's fans to be funny.
If Rand had written Atlas Shrugged as a dystopic novel from a marxist perspective with the same style and characters it would be required reading for high school seniors across America, there would be countless pages of gibberish postmodern deconstruction of it in academic journals, and liberal feminists would praise Dagny Taggart as being some watershed "strong" female protagonist. Fact.
I'll look it up, but there's an article written by one of her "followers" and he basically says she'd hate the GOP today. She was a pro-choice athiest for crying out loud!kalm wrote:Grandmother of modern conks...![]()

I believe that. I've listened to Ayn Rand Institute Executive Director Yaron Brook a few times on radio and he's very compelling about her philosophy. I don't think he's too enamored with the GOP.Ibanez wrote:I'll look it up, but there's an article written by one of her "followers" and he basically says she'd hate the GOP today. ...it isn't.
Once again, you attempt to discuss a topic having not studied the subject.
Your continued attempts to seemingly provoke debate by asking nonsensical questions just muddy focus and clarification (as always).
