Is it September yet?

The off season is killing me.  If it weren’t for school, moving, and playing semi-pro football I would have lost it by now.  It seems like spring football was already a year ago.

We’re all excited for the kick-off of the 2010 season, so I thought I would give a rundown of some of the games I’m most excited about in the first week.

9/4/2010:

Weber State at Boston College-  If the Wildcats can keep up the offensive attack they’ve had for the last couple of years, this could be a very interesting game.  I’m always looking out for the FCS over FBS upsets, and this one has an outside shot.

Elon at Duke-  I think the Phoenix have a great shot at taking down the Blue Devils.  Not neccesarily a earth shaking prediction, but FCS over FBS nonetheless.

Richmond at Virginia- This will be a game of interest.  While I might normally predict a Richmond win, Coach Mike London left the Spiders for UVa at the end of the 2009 season.  It will be interesting to see how these two coaches staffs approach this game.  Richmond also has former USC backup, Aaron Corp.

(Edit: Thanks to Ursus!) William and Mary at UMass- What better way to start the season than to see where two CAA teams are at?  This should be a great test for both teams.  Can’t hurt to get an early lead in the CAA standings.

What games are you guys looking forward to?

Good to see ya back at it Update. All the games you have listed will be interesting but I’m looking forward to some of the FCS matchups a little more. W&M/UMass etc…

My schedule didn’t have that game on it. Weird. I’ll definitely add that to the list.

Homer vote but EWU @ Nevada. BLM certainly won’t be intimidated by a large crowd and will be looking to prove something to everyone at SMU. Two high powered offenses and questionable defenses. Nevada will be breaking in a new DC.

The new “Hatch Attack” at Murray State travels to Kent State to kick things off.Hopefully starting off a nice string of FCS over FBS games.

2010 looks to be a new beginning for DI college football, with all the realigning of programs from one conference to another. And of course the loss of 2 programs out of the CAA, in addition to 2 others in the next couple of years.

One big CAA Division instead of the south and north divisions the past few years should also provide an even more interesting season than usual.

Once the new programs enter the CAA Conference in a couple of years, I am sure they will go back to a north and south divisions again. But in the mean time, having all of those superior programs scratching and clawing at each other should prove interesting.

And even more interesting is the 2010 FCS Playoff field increase to 20 teams. I am interested in reading in this forum opinions about what league will get automatic bids and what programs will earn at large bids to the 20 team playoff?????

I’ll be traveling to Lynchburg to see Liberty’s kickoff game in the upgraded stadium. Most of the games in the opening weekend are lopsided, but it’s a good opportunity for someone to create some hype with an upset. There will be games televised on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, & Monday. It’s time to clear space on the DVR’s.
