Re: 2022-23 Big Sky Basketball Season
Good pair of wins for the Jacks! Off to eGriz ;) The Big Sky conference is horrible. Blame it on the refs. Some frustrated posters there blaming their best player. So, you know.... the usual. The Griz don't seem to have the athletic depth they've had in the past (i.e. a wealth of quality guards who...

Re: FCS-FBS Games, Weeks 0-1
If there's ever going to be a year that NAU can beat ASU, it should be this year. ASU coaching staff is in disarray with multiple coaches leaving or being investigated. SunDevils football lost their top QB, 2 or 3 running backs, top ranked and 3rd ranked receivers and an all conference freshman line...

Re: Watch Out! USC & UCLA to the BIG TEN
Boise State also has a real shot, and it could have potentially been a great deal for Montana and Montana State if Montana would expand that brown death-hole they have in Missoula. Have the best stadium in Montana why don’t you… Montana should’ve expanded to 30,000+ the moment Eastern got RED turf....

Re: Could this put NAU in the Pioneer?
NAU has the better overall athletics program. They are competitive in more of their sports than the U of M. They've won more overall conference and national championships recently. This isn't a conversation whether or not the U of Montana has a better football program NAU or men's basketball program...

Re: Could this put NAU in the Pioneer?
Given the amount of money that NAU put into the newly opened Student Athlete High Performance Center, I'm pretty sure the university plans to continue having a competitive athletics program. That means providing scholarships. I see no signs at the moment that NAU would consider a move to a non-schol...

Re: Big Sky Basketball, 2020-21
Okay, so the Griz would lose by 25 instead of 30 like NAU. Gonzaga has played 4 top 20 teams, another decent Power 5 conference team in Auburn and were scheduled to play #2 Baylor before covid issues. Scared of the Griz they certainly aren't. I do think the Griz have a shot at beating Gonzaga's foot...

Re: BREAKING NEWS: SUU to Bolt Big Sky for the WAC
Thanks, SDHornet. I'll spend some time perusing those sites tonight.
I kinda enjoyed NAU having a somewhat nearby rival in SUU. I hope the schools continue to play in non-conference.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: SUU to Bolt Big Sky for the WAC
I agree. Id be surprised if Weber considers the WAC. NAU is getting a lot of run on the realignment boards because of geography, but I have a hard time seeing them consider the WAC as well. It is 2020 for a few more days so who knows. Hey, SDHornet. Which boards are conversing about the realignment...

Shane Burcar named head mens basketball coach for NAU. I approve. Thoughts, dbackjon?

Re: Majerle Canned
Just like Liberty - "Christian" but exploits federal programs to get billions. I haven't been to a game @ GCU since the shenanigans experienced in the crowd (from the cranky GCU fans sitting nearby to security playing the role of "Big Brother") during the CIT opening round game....

Re: Majerle Canned
GCU is all in on men's basketball. It is their marquee sport given the school has no football. Administration has grand visions of playing with the big boys of collegiate hoops. Majerle got the program started but the school administration and fanbase wants more. That being said, the GCU student sec...

Re: Big Sky Basketball, 2019-20
NAU's men have been the biggest surprise so far. I mean, they don't look super good, but they weren't really supposed to beat anybody at all this year. Whatever Burcar is doing different than Murphy seems to be working so far. I've watched 3-4 games online and Burcar comes across as pushing a posit...

Re: 2019 Call Your Shot/Check in
NAU.
7-5 if a few things go right. 6-6 or 5-7 sounds more realistic, though. 10 out of the 12 coaches on staff are new, a beat up offensive line to start the season, late departures/transfers, five tough road games.....that's too much to expect a playoff push.

Re: Big Sky Tournament Thread (2019) - Men
The only teams I think are out of running are WSU and UI. Weber is scuffling/underperforming. Idaho has had the roughest season. I can see any of the rest of the teams pulling an upset in a Big Sky conference lacking a dominant squad. UM and UNC are the best teams but they are not without flaws. It ...

Re: Two Questions
1. Do other states have strip clubs at truck stops or is this just a "Montana" thing? I've driven past the one in Dillon many a times but never pulled the trigger due to time constraints or driving elderly, less "adventurous" relatives. 2. I initially though the correct spelling ...

Re: Jerome Souers Retiring… Sort of
One poster on eGriz floated the idea of NAU hiring Bob Stitt and Stitt bringing in Gresch Jensen. I doubt Jensen would go there, however, since Cookus has another year. Cookus hasn't announced what he's planning on doing after his shoulder surgery. It's not a given he's returning, if I read correct...

Re: Jerome Souers Retiring… Sort of
Finally! Thompson? Pflugrad #1? Pflugrad #2? Or something off the radar and out of the norm (hiring outside of the school/conference) for NAU? I don't have a read on the new A.D. and their view of the athletic department's direction yet. NAU has only had two coaches since I started following them i...
