Re: SCOTUS Rulings 2020

I know there was one post in another thread, but I thought the recent decisions by SCOTUS deserved their own thread. Two biggies today, and both favored religious leanings, and both surprisingly with 7-2 majorities that included Breyer and Kagan (although in one Kagan and Breyer joined together in ...

Re: Hypothetical Public Financing Question

Sorry, Ivy, for adding to the hijack of your thread... But I could not let that clap trap go unchallenged No worries, Hogie. dback needs a new Midol scrip. He should be doing somersaults about the SCOTUS rulings on the LA abortion law and bringing gays and trannies within the scope of Title VII. Bu...

Re: Hypothetical Public Financing Question

Packing the Supreme Court will place 2d Amendment supporters in a "use them or lose them" position. They will perceive any effort to pack the court as an attempt to reverse Heller and to re-interpret the 2d Amendment so it does not authorize a personal right to gun ownership. At that point, they wi...

Re: Hypothetical Public Financing Question

IMO, packing the Supreme Court will be a dire move that will trigger outright rebellion in the middle states. The Democrats need to take a good look from where most of our troops are drawn before asking them to quell rebellions in the middle states. I agree that court packing could be disastrous. I...

No minor leagues this year. Those are some fun times.
I agree. It’s fun watching the young players develop in a family atmosphere. I’ll miss that more than MLB.
I'd feel the same way if I rooted for the Phillies. :thumb:

Re: 2020 Official Baseball Season Thread

There is that chance. I think MLB should look at what the NBA did. Because of the circumstances, not all NBA teams were invited to Orlando. Really bad teams like the Knicks were left out. So maybe MLB should just not invite certain sucky teams, like the Orioles, Tigers, and Phillies. And maybe this...

Re: 2020 Official Baseball Season Thread

I predict that the upcoming “60-game season” will be another victim of Covid. There is that chance. I think MLB should look at what the NBA did. Re: German Soccer to Return

Next up for Dortmund: cellar-dwelling Paderborn. Gotta have it! La Liga has started again too. Barcelona plays at 4 p.m. today on beIN Sports. I really enjoy the flow and creativity of the Spanish game. La Liga is chock full of most of the world's best play makers, along with a ton of players with ...

Re: German Soccer to Return

But the Bayern Steamroller keeps on crushing all that lie before it. Bayern is the Yankees of the Bundesliga. They buy talent and steamroll the competition. They do so much more effectively than the Yankees maybe because they're better at developing talent. :-P I go for Dortmund because I'm a man o...

MUCH better second half.
But the Bayern Steamroller keeps on crushing all that lie before it.
They'll be hard-pressed to top Bayern. But they've got three teams on their trail -- and only the four top teams will get a Champions League berth for 2020-21.

Re: German Soccer to Return

Dortmund gets 2-0 win over Wolfsburg to maintain its hold on second place in the standings. :thumb: Make or break game v. Bayern on Tuesday, 5/26 (12:30 p.m., FS1). A win draws the Yellow and Black to within a point of Bayern. A defeat will drop them to seven back, and will likely cause a slip from...

Re: German Soccer to Return

There must not have been steroids in the Yankees clubhouse, because Strawberry said he have used them if he was offered them. Yes. There's an interesting story to why steroids never took a foothold in the Yankee clubhouse of that era. I've heard this from media figures who cover the Yankees that I ...

Re: German Soccer to Return

Joe isn't be completely forthright. He first asked Ganny to name any member of the 1998 Yankees that used PEDs, he added the "during that season or before" later. I believe there were at least three members of that team who were linked to PEDs later. We don't really know if they were using them in ...

Re: German Soccer to Return

Is there a reason you make the distinction "during or before" instead of after? :coffee: Because TWO (just two) members of that team were later named in The Mitchell Report as having used PEDs. However, in both cases, the Mitchell Report stated that they had first used PEDs at a period of time foll...

Re: German Soccer to Return

So far this match is a pale substitute for the JJ vs. D1B matches of yesteryear. Too much logic and words from a thesaurus and not enough zingers. JJ still has some spunk but Ganny just isn't a trash talker. Let's hope the next round is better.   I'm too nice to truly tr...
