Re: SCOTUS Rulings 2020

I know there was one post in another thread, but I thought the recent decisions by SCOTUS deserved their own thread. Two biggies today, and both favored religious leanings, and both surprisingly with 7-2 majorities that included Breyer and Kagan (although in one Kagan and Breyer joined together in ...

Agreed. Any land that was ever reservation land is now suspect. Should lead to plenty of new cases in the coming years, not just in Oklahoma but lots of other places. It's a fairly narrow ruling. I don't think it will have that great of an impact That's what the Round-up folks thought when a jury d...

Re: SCOTUS Rulings 2020

I'm fine with the rulings as is - allowing the prosecutor to continue is the right decision, no one's above the law. And there are tighter controls on the information in a grand jury investigation. Good decision not opening up the floodgates to Congress, no controls on the information there.

If they could save the salary hit and if they had a replacement for him ready to go then yes, they could. They don't have either of those things so they won't. Cooper yelled out the n-word when he was probably under the influence of alcohol or something else and was contrite after the fact. Desean ...

Heard on the radio that soccer is more popular than hockey now.
Is that shocking? I think it's been that way for awhile now. Baseball's likely to be next. I don't think it'll touch basketball and football in our lifetimes, but it will nestle into #3 in America quite nicely.

Unless there's a way to cut him and not take a salary cap hit. All about the money - can't afford to cut him and not have another WR to replace him. For a guy who went to Cal-Berkley, he sure doesn't come across as very intelligent. I'm not sure he went to a lot of classes when he was on campus. Co...

PPP was supposed to keep people on payrolls and not laid off. How is an employee at Newsweek or Daily Kos or anywhere else less of an employee than an employee at Sam's Main Street Hardware store? I'm not familiar with the business models of the companies you listed, but surely subscriptions or adv...

What opposition? Both sides were for this and included provisions that were favorable to their constituents. There were R senators (including McConnell) who voiced opposition to the $600 kicker on unemployment but were shouted down by those eager to thrust their snouts into the public trough. And t...

That math looks as dubious as 6.93 does. That's basically 117,000 in the first 4 weeks. Is that what you're saying?

I agree with both Ganny and Fiver. The problem wasn't that these or other companies took advantage of a program that could benefit them, they'd be fools not to. The problem was that it was as Fiver stated "rushed through with no thought" and companies who might not need it could benefit from it. I ...

To take the other side here, why wouldn't a media company be able to get a PPP loan? The whole idea of those loans were to keep people employed and keep businesses from going under permanently. A job is a job, no? Look at this list and tell me these companies are deserving of a taxpayer bailout. ht...

That's what makes it hard to even listen to news headlines or posts like Trip's there. Re: What will happen with the 2020 college football season?

I don’t see how this season gets played. To do it this fall would be stupid, and there are no guarantees that we will be out of the woods this spring, either. At best, if schools insist on playing, the average DI school might get 2-3 games played. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I agree. I've sa...

The American voters were so upset about this that they returned a majority GOP Senate and they elected a GOP President. The Electoral College elected Trump President. American voters voted for Clinton. And, the entire Senate wasn't up for election in 2016. Democrats gained 2 seats (IL and NH). Than...

I agree that court packing could be disastrous. I would hope that the chaos and craziness could be tempered with a Trump loss in November, but I also fear that the Dems don't have much of a plan outside of just beating Trump so things could really go anywhere with a Dem victory, both good and bad. ...
