Re: 2020/21 Olympics Thread

Was reading that viewership was about 17 million for the opening ceremony, down about 36% from 2016 (which was a 35% drop from 2012). Guessing that the 13 hour time difference was a large portion of it and maybe just overall declining interest. NBC did say that it's streaming service is up overall ...

Re: 2020/21 Olympics Thread

I'm loving the Olympic Channel - it's basically like watching the NFL Red Zone - they only show the highlights from things (like 5 seconds of Judo rather than watching a whole match) and you get to see who's medaled. Takes about 3 minutes for a segment and then they move on to the next sport. I mean...

Re: China

I absolutely agree. China is already so much more nationalistic today than it was 20 years ago, and there's every indication that Xi wants to warp speed that nationalistic furor ever more so going forward. I think you see them go after Taiwan in the next 10 years - that's when the crap is really go...

Re: China

I don't disagree, I think the connection of them to Japan is not really well thought out, two very different cultures and two very different countries. Maybe the author thought all Asians look alike and went with it? I think the scary thing about China is the recent decision to no longer restrict t...

I love the Olympics, always fun to watch. I agree with 89, the Winter ones are sometimes better than the Summer, but they're all good IMO.

Re: Political memes, Posters, Funny Pics, Etc.

Gets sticky when you talk about revising history that's already been revised. I'd argue that the "Lost Cause" revisionist history was and still is the most successful coordinated effort to revise history that we've ever seen in America. That's where the hyperbolistic idea of Lee being a g...

Always people that won't/can't follow the rules, which at this point are pretty simple. Mass transit, airports, hospitals, it's really not that hard anymore.

https://twitter.com/Rasmussen_Poll/status/1410924418189217792 That's an interesting poll. Besides just the spread from one group to the next, what I find interesting is that no less than 30% of the most skeptical group (the Dems in this case) actually believe there was cheating in the election and ...

The Timberwolves are a team that’s in the mix for Ben Simmons. They’ve wanted an upgrade at the power forward position dating back to the trade deadline last year when they were in the mix for Aaron Gordon. Simmons and D’Angelo Russell played together at Montverde Academy, where they won back-to-ba...

One of the big problem with reparations is that once you decide that, there's really no need for anything else. Reparations are it, the final straw, so if there are racial disparities after reparations then oh well. Unless of course we're talking perpetual reparations, and in that case that won't ev...

Too long ago. Rail works best in really concentrated spaces. We just have too much room and the desire for people to have space. Building a lot more rail now, in places where it doesn't exist, makes almost no sense, especially when we also are saying that more and more people don't need to go into ...

I devotedly follow the NFL, I care about the NBA, and I pay passing notice to MLB. Hardly even bother with the NHL anymore and actually watch a slight more MLS than I do NHL. I personally like that idea and see the possibilities, but doesn’t that also open the door to more sprawl, fuel usage, or need for mass transit?
