Re: Impeach Trump!

Based on the what they have been doing since Trump was elected I wouldn't bet against them screwing up a wet dream. Like Cid said, there is a few things they could be doing to show that they are willing to still do their jobs and put the country first, while maintaining the push to impeach Trump. B...

Re: Miscellaneous news items that don't warrant their own thread

So, you’re “on board,” but you won’t vote for him. You’ll vote for a Democrat whose policies will eviscerate the value of your retirement accounts. Gotcha. I won't vote for Trump because his support of things I don't agree with. It won't matter though....so I can have a clear conscience AND still b...

Re: Coronavirus

A couple comments- This virus does not appear to be very different from SARS. The difference now is twofold: a) China’s economy has expanded bigly since SARS. 10x Chinese are traveling abroad than were doing so during SARS b) The Chinese govt largely covered up SARS. They have been much more open a...

Re: U.S. denies request for Puerto Rico shipping waiver

As is your habit, Trips, you run away from your own arguments, maybe to give yourself a chance to Google something coherent. You said above: “If a TERRITORY wants to become a state and votes for it, why should Congress ignore THEIR will?” Now, you move the goalposts, citing an unattributed poll of ...

Re: U.S. denies request for Puerto Rico shipping waiver

Simple question, simple answer. Senators represent entire states, and Representatives represent constituents in 435 separate districts. They are under no obligation to respect (much less surrender to) the express “will” of 22% of a place they don’t represent. Read up on our federal system. :dunce: ...

Re: U.S. denies request for Puerto Rico shipping waiver

You are a trip (pun intended). You probably favor DC statehood as well, if not the admission of Honduras and Guatemala. If you want to take away the power of Congress to determine the admission of new states, turn the process into a plebiscite. Amend or STFU. Why should we bend over for the views o...

Well, there is the little matter of the Constitution (Article IV, Section 3, to be precise), a document of which you are willfully ignorant and merrily trash at every opportunity. I don't know what your implication is here? That we wrote ourselves power over a people and well, that's the way it is....

Tripz, a few years ago, about 97% of PR voters claimed to prefer statehood over independence or commonwealth status. But the referendum had about a 22% turnout. They don’t care. So why should Congress bother? :coffee: And “Democratic” instead of “democratic” is spot on. If we admitted PR, that woul...

Twitter is a social medium designed for 2020 America: short attention spans, 140 characters, and marginal literacy. Why Greenwald is farting around in Brazil is a mystery to me, with all that’s going on right here. Oh, and did I forget to mention that Tucker Carlson is a punk? He lives in Brazil wi...
