Re: my state's governor rejects $700million stimulus
Commentary from today's Chicago Tribune - Strings Attached http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/arts/chi-perspec0315stimulusmar15,0,216570.story Last month, Congress enacted the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, popularly called "the stimulus plan." It gives billions of dollar...

Re: Johnston On Palin- "It Doesn't Fit Like It Did"
T-man and Baldy , October, 2008: "John McCain could not have picked a better running mate than Sarah Palin." Just wanted to point that little gem out. Again. He'd have lost by more votes than he did if he had not picked Palin. He may be a hero and a former POW, but he's not presidential m...

This is getting old... The man President Obama appointed to be his chief technology geek is on leave after his former office in the D.C. government was raided by the FBI yesterday... Vivek Kundra has not been directly tied to the alleged crimes involved in the raid, but he has taken a leave of abse...

Re: USNWR: Dubya Ranked #36 of 42 in Worst Presidents.....
Thinking a lot of you have to go to the library and pick up some books on the railroads, coal and steel industries and resultant working conditions and societal ills, particulary in the period from 1870 until the mid-1930's and get a grip on what the real abuses of capitalism are in an unregulated ...

Re: USNWR: Dubya Ranked #36 of 42 in Worst Presidents.....
:? BTW, how can you have capitalism without the greed you assert to be the real problem? Greed is to capitalism what oxygen is to carbon-based life forms. Unfortunately, greed isn't limited to capitalism. At this point in our evolutionary cycle, it's endemic to the human race. Every system is going...

Just because a person's personal biases have caused them to make up their minds and prevent them from considering alternatives doesn't make those alternatives any less valid. First, economic cycles are natural. The Federal Reserve has worked very hard to try and smooth out those ups and downs but t...

Re: Obama driving down middle of the road
The political spectrum is a circle not a straight line, you go far enough in either direction you end up right next to those of the opposite belief. Hitler and Stalin being the prime examples. A straight line is a gross oversimplification and a circle is not logical in practice. My point being, bas...

I really could care less. However, it would be blasphemous for the big 10 to get more, I don't care what your little RPI says. I say the RPI is bogus. So you do care? I know what you mean though regarding the RPI. While the ACC and Big East are clearly better at the top, it is not out of the ...

Second, I could argue just as convincingly that tax cuts and trickle down economics are good for the federal budget (and job creation) as you could that tax increases on the middle class/wealthy and percolate up economics are . But I don't think we're going to change the other person's opinion. IMO...

That's debatable. Some would argue that increased government spending prolonged the Great Depression. The question of whether we would be better off under McCain than Obama is an irrelevant circle jerk. The economy would still be in the toilet and we could argue forever about whether it would be wo...

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama embraced merit pay for teachers Tuesday in spelling out a vision of education that will almost certainly alienate union backers. Educators oppose charter schools because they divert tax dollars away from traditional public schools. Merit-based systems for teacher...

I'm not trying to justify Gitmo but I do have some questions: How should enemy combatants in a war on terror be classified? Are they soldiers who when captured should be treated as prisoners of war? Or are they spies who can be treated much differently? They do not wear uniforms; they blend in with...

Re: Should colleges teach with a political agenda?
I am a fairly conservative person, and I like school. However, I am finding that many of my professors are trying to push a liberal agenda at me and call it an education. I have a problem with this, sadly most of the oblivious people at UNI have no idea this is happening. This isn't all profs, by a...
