Re: Some good news on climate
What a bunch of drivel. Lots of buzzwords about equity, reparations, etc. Nothing about China and India building coal plants like crazy to provide power to their booming populations. Nothing about how the Paris Accord lets China and India avoid doing anything by tying emissions to GDP. A ton of CO2 ...

Re: 2022 Elections Thread
There was a lot of that this year. Democrats nominated a lot of moderates, GOP went full Trump-crazy. Herrera-Beutler would have cruised to re-election. But Trump and his minions had to have revenge. Democrats did nominate a lot of moderates and it served them well. Hopefully they and progressive e...

Re: 2022 Elections Thread
I'm seeing reports that Rs won 6 million more votes than Ds in House races but failed to gain many seats. Isn't that a threat to democracy because the people's voices aren't being heard? Did gerrymandering play a role in that? Doesn't matter. The will of the people is being ignored. Democrac...

Re: The Ukraine Crisis
US electric utilities are struggling to get things like wire or transformers in a timely fashion. Transformer lead times are now 52-80 weeks when they used to be 4-6. The US Govt has now contacted all the national utility associations requesting that they ask their members for surplus equipment to s...

Re: Election Day - Predictions & Your State Info
The red wave in Iowa got at least two of the statewide Dems. The 3rd has a 3,100 vote lead with a couple of precincts left so he will likely squeak it out. The 3 incumbent R US reps won easily and the only D Rep appears to have lost by about 2,000 votes.

Re: Poll: Democrats are trying to convince voters that democracy will die if Republicans win because?
This post is NOT for the historian deniers… (But gives a concise example of the democracy threat) Remember, though, this election is full of wild cards. Traditionally—but not always—the party of the president does poorly in the first midterm election. But we are in uncharted territory: never before...

Re: Election Day - Predictions & Your State Info
Iowa is going to be status quo. R Governor cruises to an easy victory as the Ds have a candidate but she's essentially a token. For US Senate Grassley has his closest race in his career but still wins easily. Currently 3 out of 4 US Reps are Republicans. The 3 incumbent Rs win. The incumbent D is in...

Don't lose hope JSO. Remember Hillary had anywhere from a 85-99% chance of winning the presidency. Actually, as i've written before, 538 had her winning at 71.4% confidence on election eve. Another example of how the perception of how favored Clinton was exceeds the reality. Her losing was no...
