Do yourself and your girlfriend a favor-

If you're getting a gun for some good ol redneck fun at the range, then by all means get a semiautomatic.

If you're getting one because you genuinely want to have a chance at protecting yourself in the event you are about to be slaughtered like a lamb, then stay away from semiautos.

Get a revolver. Preferably a .38 caliber throated for the +P ammunition. Smith and Wesson made an excellent little carbon steel featherweight one- not sure if they still make it but they're on the used market for sure. It was a 5 shot snub (1.5 inch barrel) and you can put it anywhere in your britches and yank it out without getting hung up. And you won't shoot your clitoris off or create any alternative buttholes.

Revolvers are safe, reliable, and require next to no care or maintenance. If you pull the trigger 5 times, 5 bullets will reliably come out of the hole, even if the gun is full of dirt. The vast majority of violent crime victims are killed from very short range, so the short barrel and accuracy won't be as much of a factor as people would lead you to believe.

Second, unless you just want to do it for fun (it IS fun)... don't do all the silly tactical shit at the private ranges that all the Tackleberrys like to show off. Get one of them to show you the point shooting technique. If they look at you funny when you say that, then find a different tackleberry.
I have nothing against revolvers, in fact, there isn't a gun made that I am aware of that I don't like.

But I don't buy into the semi-autos have issues and aren't reliable. I think there are a lot of factors that go into it. I have put thousands of rounds through my 10mm Colt Delta Elite and I have never had a misfeed. The longer cartridge of the 10mm really does help with the feeding and it packs a nice punch.

Again, I would certainly own a revolver but I also wouldn't shy away from a semi-auto either. I have 3 different semi-auto pistols right now (10 mm, 9mm and a .40sw) and a revolver is next on the list. :twocents:

Yup, S&W .38, anybody that says that ain't enough, has little experience and probably as small a schmeckle as does Citdog. Pointed AZ that way a couple years ago, he came up with a hammerless S&W with built in lazer sight, perfect!

I've turned a 180 on this now after this weekend myself.

I've never held a loaded gun in my life, never knowingly been with someone that has either.

Now...

I'm inclined to not only buy a gun, but also get a concealed carry permit which is way too easy to get in PA.

 :suspicious:

I find it easier just to stay home and keep an old 4-iron close to me near the couch.

I can't consistently hit a 4 iron, therefore I have handguns.

Really? You don't have any snide comments to make about folks that like guns? No wishing shootings to happen to others?

What changed your mind? OH...that's right..you are a dummie who flip-flops ONLY TO SUIT YOURSELF. :dunce:
