GA confederate flag supporters indicted on terrorism charges

Threats of violence were made. And, they were armed. And, their charges are based on the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.

The District Attorney is a white Republican.

I didn't see or hear threats of violence. It is OK to be armed. The statute under which they were charged might be unconstitutional. We shall see.

They went to a kids birthday party filled with women and started talking SHYT. They waited until the three males left the party to get all Billy bad azz.

Should they have been found guilty? Yes

Should they have to serve more than 3-5 years for a crime that didnt hurt anyone......only feelings? Of course not, no sane country would give them 15+ for speaking and driving.

But, this law was passed 20+ years ago to bring heavier charges against loosely defined "groups." This is almost always used against inner city gangs.

Never heard a Conk complain about these laws until they were used against racist rural yokels.

Do you think these laws are ridiculous, or only when they aren't applied to inner city gangs?

I think you and I both know that people like this would have never done this on foot and would have crapped their pants and fled if anyone actually confronted them.

Also, I'm going to take a wild guess that "Respect the Flag" has killed vastly fewer (e.g. zero) people than urban gangs do. I mean, it's not like the rural south has all the carnage that South Side Chicago has.

But of course, we need to pretend like Bubba and Jim Bob are just as dangerous and Tyrone and Demetrius cuz racism.

So one is fake news, and one likely isn't. I'm guessing the ABC link Jelly posted is the fake one, since no one gets sentenced to 15 or 20 years in "jail". Anything more than a year is generally prison. But even 13 and 6 years its seems like an excessive sentence for a dumb yahoo hispanic guy and his girlfriend when no one was seriously injured much less murdered.

Anything more than a year is generally prison. It could also just be lazy or dumb journalists.

I used to encounter folks from all three TV news stations in Charleston and a couple from the Post and Courier who I think were borderline illiterate.

Yes I think charges like this are idiotic in all cases. Like a guy selling drugs and he gets 10-15 years. Its stupid.

To Libs, the punishment isn't about the crime...it is about the thought.

Violently kill someone? Meh...a few years behind bars, at most.
