Does your plan also eliminate all the social give-aways to people who did nothing to earn it? The "with SS" should have been "without SS". Typo.Ibanez wrote:BDKJMU wrote: Mostly agree, but the US did last for its 1st 150 or so years with SS, and about 180ish years without medicaid & medicare..![]()

our social safety net doesnt make the cut
It just isn't that costly in the grand scheme of things - and people need to consider what our bottom 15% would be up to if they weren't getting that check

I agree if you're talking about the chunk that really needs it and don't abuse the system...but there is the chunk that doesn't need it, and abuse it because its available, ripe for the taking. The system is rife with waste and abuse. Just google welfare abuse and there are countless stories..Chizzang wrote:Indeed,CID1990 wrote:

If you think giving money to the bottom 15% in order to suppress unrest is a good investment, by all means do it. But don't support government programs that force other people to do it as well.

farm subsidies - abused
SSA- abused
Medicare/Medicaid- abused
Byzantine tax codes- abused
If we cut out ALL the fraud in the welfare system we'd save what amounts to a rounding error
and yes they use drugs too - still not worth what would happen if we cut all the users off
