This is why conservatives should really stay away from comedy. Libertarians like Dennis Miller, Larry Miller, and Penn Gillette are funny but that's as close as you guys will get.
Meanwhile...CNN polls 7 points ahead of Trump in trustworthiness. Ouch.

Bullshit. Only conservatives have the innate sense of the futility and absurdity of life that makes comedy possible. Liberals are a bunch of sunny, human-perfectability, glass-half-full twinks.kalm wrote:This is why conservatives should really stay away from comedy. That's because you haven't explored theories of the nature of humor or comedy. For starters, read Henri Bergson's essay on "Laughter" and get back to me. Aristotle's Poetics have some good stuff too.kalm wrote:I rest my case.Ivytalk wrote: Bullshit. Yeah...ask any person with a good sense of humor who comes to mind when they think comedy and some semi-obscure Frenchman and fucking Aristotle are sure to be at the top of the list!Ivytalk wrote:That's because you haven't explored theories of the nature of humor or comedy. Conks in general lack a funny bone. Liberals have their own deficiencies too. Did these two philosophers ever write about the importance of owning one's shit?

Re: CNN Apology
Actually, there was a survey about 10 years ago (Psychology Today?) that showed that conks had a better sense of humor than Donks, as measured by responses to several sets of jokes. Personally, I don't really think either side has a monopoly on wit.kalm wrote:Yeah...ask any person with a good sense of humor who comes to mind when they think comedy and some semi-obscure Frenchman and **** Aristotle are sure to be at the top of the list!Ivytalk wrote: That's because you haven't explored theories of the nature of humor or comedy. It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

Who determines if they are funny or not before they are used in the survey?Ivytalk wrote:as measured by responses to several sets of jokes.
And what if the jokes really weren't funny (sorta like any "joke" that StickyLips tries around here)?

Libertarians are funny - when you pretty much want to give the middle finger to everyone and everybody it's easier to be funny. Irreverance is funny. Conservatives aren't funny, they're too defensive and prickly. Liberals aren't funny, they're too condescending and smug. Laughing at both sides of the political spectrum is the only option.kalm wrote:This is why conservatives should really stay away from comedy. I read them. The golf jokes were the best. Better than the McBunz standard, IMO.bandl wrote:Who determines if they are funny or not before they are used in the survey?Ivytalk wrote:as measured by responses to several sets of jokes.
