Americans tend to have a distorted understanding of people on the other side of the aisle, what causes it, and why it matters.

Almost two-thirds of Americans describe themselves as either Democrats or Republicans, and with every passing year each side seems to dislike the other more and more. We trust each other less, we fear each other more, and we struggle to understand how those on the other side of the political fence could possibly hold so many wrong-headed views.

I’m not a fan of most politicians and that goes for both parties

and I also don’t like people who steadfastly support one side or the other

which basically means I don’t like about 90% of the entire population

Well, you ought to LOVE me because I spent all of my adult life through about 2015 voting Republican. I voted every time I had the chance to vote and only voted for a Democrat over a Republican once. That was a case when, strangely, the Democrat was pro life and the Republican was pro choice. Then when the Republicans nominated Trump I switched on a dime.

In other words: When the Republicans did something unacceptable I quit supporting the Republicans.
