D.C. Statehood Bill
On party-line vote , a House committee votes out a D.C. statehood bill. It will likely pass the full House but is DOA in the Senate. “Washington Douglass Commonwealth.” Nice ring to it. Donks tried to anticipate constitutional objections by carving out all the federal office buildings. But you probably still need a Constitutional Amendment IMHO.

Way above my pay grade, but why not just somehow throw DC into Maryland for voting purposes. Not that I want them, but I'm tired of hearing them whine. We're already voting Blue, so it don't matter.

Re: D.C. Statehood Bill
One of the Democratic mistakes when they held all Branches from 2009-10 was not giving DC Statehood then.
It is beyond stupid NOT to have DC a state. It has a population larger than two states, and growing.

I don't blame donks for wanting DC as a state. 2 more donk senators and another House rep. Come to think of it, it's the same reason they think Puerto Rico being a state is a legit idea.
No to both.

Re: D.C. Statehood Bill
Wrong. The donks couldn't have passed a constitutional amendment 2009-2010 to make DC a state.
So what it has a population larger than 2 states. So do close to 20 other cities, all of which are growing also.

Re: D.C. Statehood Bill
I'm not in favor of it being a state - sure, it has the population, but it has no land area (hence why it's a city). Even tiny Rhode Island is about 18x bigger than DC. I'm with 89, I'd be in favor of rolling them into Maryland for the purposes of representation in Congress, since that's where all the land came from. They already get to vote for President so that's the only thing missing. Heck, they could likely allow the population in DC to be considered part of Maryland without a Constitutional amendment whereas trying to make it a state without an amendment would likely tie it up in the courts for a long time.
Oh, and what's up with changing it from the "District of Columbia"? Why are they anti-female and want to change it?

Re: D.C. Statehood Bill
No one wants to have an odd number of states.....50 is perfect. If they made DC a state maybe they could combine the Dakotas? They will be Red forever so politically there's nothing to worry about. Dakota sounds a lot cooler than the directionals as well.

So what happened to the other 7 states, I've been to all 57?

That would be tougher because of more diverse politics.....and it would fuck up the 50 state thing.

Re: D.C. Statehood Bill
Yeah but if you combine the Dakotas you are taking away 2 R senators and adding 2 D senators with DC. That's never going to go through if you do it that way..

Simple solution: combine CT and RI (deep blue) and create Delmarva (deep red)tribe_pride wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2020 9:11 amYeah but if you combine the Dakotas you are taking away 2 R senators and adding 2 D senators with DC. That's never going to go through if you do it that way..
You're welcome.
For clarification, the portion of New Castle County DE above the C&D Canal would remain Delaware. It would take Louisiana off the hook as the most violent, uneducated, unhealthy state in the country.

No kidding, especially seeing that it was carved out of MD anyway.89Hen wrote:Way above my pay grade, but why not just somehow throw DC into Maryland for voting purposes. Not that I want them, but I'm tired of hearing them whine. We're already voting Blue, so it don't matter.
Probably the entrenched DC bureaucrat polis wouldn’t want to cede their autocratic authority to a state

I have no desire to be in the same state as the hooligans to the south.

Don't they currently, in essence, cede their authority to Congress?cx500d wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2020 9:40 amNo kidding, especially seeing that it was carved out of MD anyway.89Hen wrote:Way above my pay grade, but why not just somehow throw DC into Maryland for voting purposes.
