That's fairly accurate.
Really? That must be why all my righty friends are echoing this exact sentiment on social media.

That black guy president dude said something divisive like “we should get along better” or what not. I think he even challenged his political opponents. He’s clearly to blame and will not be forgiven!

Race relations took a dive well before Trump.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/1687/race-relations.aspx
So what did Obama do to sour race relations? Be precise.
Trump has definitely hurt race relations. Trump only cares about himself and while I don't think he's racist himself he is definitely capable of egging on white supremacists if they will adore him for it.

As I've said before, the story of Obama is a story of missed opportunities. He could have done so much to help heal racial divisions in this country and rather than using his pulpit to recognize both sides he took the easy way out.

Oh, I think it started when he claimed white working-class Americans were bitter and clinging to their guns and religion.

I don't know how that could be divisive or anything... :coffee:

Yes, he was wrong. Just like any white who says that blacks are lazy or gang banging thugs would be wrong. Stereotyping a group of people based on the color of their skin is wrong and it's racist.

Probably no more wrong than the Trump tweet that felchy posted, but being right or wrong isn't the question. The question is, were the comments divisive?

but yes... he offended a lot of people when he said that
BTW he was a Senator when he said that

"Working-class voters in old industrial towns decimated by job losses, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

True but the same could be said of minority voters in old decaying urban wastelands getting bitter and clinging to racism to explain their frustrations. Racism is unfortunately still a factor but it isn't the only factor and I don't think it's the primary factor (chances of success are greater if one is born in a middle-class, black family than if they're born in a poor, white family).
