Primary Election June 2, 2020

Post by HI54UNI »

Anybody else have primary elections today?

Big news in Iowa - looking like Rep. Steve King will be defeated in the Republican primary.

PA had elections, but there weren't any significant primary votes and we're not electing a Senator this cycle so we're still stuck with braindead Casey and creepy Toomey for another two years at least. Voted by mail this time, hadn't done that since college. Wanted to vote for Mayor Pete so that I could vote against the old people and I had to write him in - only Biden, Bernie, and Tulsi showed up on my Democratic ballot. Closed primary state so you only can vote in the party you are registered - would register independent but that would be me giving up the chance to vote in the primary.

Defeated by a guy with, potentially, more extremist views on women and minorities. The only difference is Feenstra is able to contain his bigotry.

Feenstra is a Sioux County guy so he is going to carry the area (Sioux, Lyon, O'Brien, Osceola, Plymouth, Cherokee, Clay) that carried King 80+% even more than King did.

Gonna be a real slog for Scholten to turn D4 blue. I think he would have crushed King, Feenstra will be tough.

King will always have is 0-94 record in congress of getting things he wrote/sponsored passed. He was great to have because if he was involved it wasn't going to get passed. He's long been a unic - he just couldn't keep his fucking mouth shut.

Iowa has 6 seats in DC - senators and 4 reps. Until Joni Ernst was elected senator 6 years ago Iowa had never sent a woman to DC. Now half our delegation is female - two reps and one senator. This fall 5 of those seats will be on the ballot and 7 of the 10 major party candidates for those 5 seats will be women.

I don't think Feenstra is more extremist on women or minorities than King but I won't vote for him. Farm Bureau shill, too churchy, and he's a Hollander. :ohno:

Barring Feenstra doing something stupid I see Scholten having no chance. Rumor has it that he knows it and has told friends that as well. The Ds will likely spend their money defending the other seats in Iowa instead of wasting it on this one.

Weld got about 8% in Indiana.

~40k protest votes against against an incumbent POTUS ain't too shabby.

He's sponsored more than a few bills in Iowa related to restricting womens rights and going after "alien sponsorship" regarding work places.

He's your typical Sioux County hypocritical "religious" type - and then some as he's the type to seek political office to use power

He's Steve King, but smart enough to not be so open about how much he hates gays, blacks, browns, women, etc.

It's why the GOP went with him over King.

He's King but not disgraced.
