Rutgers announces new COVID vaccine requirement

Post by SuperHornet »

Rutgers university has announced that ALL residential/hybrid students will be required to show proof of COVID vaccination prior to enrolling for fall classes, the first university in the country to have such a policy. They ARE allowing students to request waivers for religious or medical reasons. New Jersey has granted Rutgers permission to vaccinate students, staff, and faculty on campus. There's a bit of a discrepancy in the policy, however; while this is a requirement for students, they are only "encouraging" staff and faculty to get vaccinated, and there is no requirement for online students. That doesn't seem quite fair to me....

We'll have to see how this plays out. Haven't done much research on this, but find it hard to believe a site would use a fake quote from a CDC official.

In the same vein, when Dr. Amanda Cohn, the executive secretary of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, was asked if Covid-19 vaccination can be required, she responded that under an EUA, “vaccines are not allowed to be mandatory. So, early in this vaccination phase, individuals will have to be consented and they won’t be able to be mandatory.” Cohn later affirmed that this prohibition on requiring the vaccines applies to organizations, including hospitals
