Personally I think the EU should be responsible for their own regional defense, instead of continuing to suck on America's teat for the last 70 years.

Hopefully now that Trump isn't president anymore progressives will stop crying about how doing so would be "surrendering to Russia".

What's going to be hilarious is watching those countries being forced to cutback on those significant bennies to fund their own military, and the inevitable protests that will follow.

These views align pretty closely with the moderate voters any Democratic presidential candidate needs to win in a general election. Progressives would spend and tax more, make government far bigger and worry less (or not at all) about debt and deficits.

It's a legacy of the system we set up at the start of the last century. And since we don't really fix things in government that don't work well, we've carried this through to the present day.

Which is certainly ironic for the Democratic party - they pretty much closed ranks when it looked like Bernie might have a chance to win the primaries and instead pushed Biden forward as a Manchurian candidate simply to make possible that they could win the White House.

I have no sacred cows.

I see what Russia and China are up to every day. There is plenty of wasteful defense spending just like in every other sector. And I could cut a bunch of it, and fine-focus a bunch more. But we are behind China in some key areas and we are getting ready to find out (in our lifetimes) what the world looks like to people in less traditionally secure countries - when there is no deterrent.
