LBJ sez.....

Re: LBJ sez.....
LBJ was an old school racist
“But that wouldn't be true. Johnson was a man of his time, and bore those flaws as surely as he sought to lead the country past them. For two decades in Congress he was a reliable member of the Southern bloc, helping to stonewall civil rights legislation. As Caro recalls, Johnson spent the late 1940s railing against the "hordes of barbaric yellow dwarves" in East Asia. Buying into the stereotype that blacks were afraid of snakes (who isn't afraid of snakes?) he'd drive to gas stations with one in his trunk and try to trick black attendants into opening it. Once, Caro writes, the stunt nearly ended with him being beaten with a tire iron.”

Yes…because that’s who you posted about. ^^^
Take a break, walk around the block, visit a library, crack open a book, enroll in class or two, find a tutor.
I’m rooting for ya, Champ.

Re: LBJ sez.....
Did what job? LBJ's presidency was far from good. He certainly bears a lot of responsibility for escalating Vietnam into the disaster that it became. While noble in intent, his War on Poverty was horribly implemented and you could argue that it's done more harm that good in the long run. And while he was there when important Civil Rights legislation happened, those things were already moving through the system even without him. It's likely whoever was in office when they came around would've seen them through. He wasn't a terrible President, but he wasn't a particularly good one either.kalm wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 8:03 pm1960’s era racist. Relax, Francis. I was specifically replying to the post on civil rights. LBJ had racist tendencies compared to today’s expectations. He knew they’d lose the south as he’s famously quoted, but still pushed Civil Rights through.GannonFan wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 7:28 amDid what job? LBJ's presidency was far from good. It was a semi-smarmy reply with a sprinkle of truth to it.
