James Carville recommended approach to combating trump's most unhinged ideas
Although earlier in his podcast interview with Acosta, Carville admitted that he’s “panicked” about Trump’s White House, he did offer what he thinks is Democrat’s best play to combat the president’s more unhinged ideas, like annexing Canada, or using military force to take over the Panama Canal and Greenland: to just, well, ignore it.
“He has no intention of following up on any of it,” Carville said, 11 minutes into the episode. “He couldn’t find the Panama Canal zone if you gave him GPS and a hundred years, alright? I really don’t think he could point to Greenland on a map.”
Carville said Trump is merely trying to dominate the news cycle — a point other experts and politicians like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) have also made.
“None of it’s going to happen. He’s going to get bored by this,” Carville said.
“I am encouraging Democrats to adopt a strategy of retreat,” Carville said a little over a minute into the interview, comparing this tactic to legendary boxer Muhammad Ali’s rope-a-dope strategy. This boxing tactic, coined by Ali, involved leaning on the ropes and pretending to be flailing in the fight. He’d block punches while his opponent went to town on him. This helped Ali preserve his energy, and would eventually exhaust his opponent, making them vulnerable to Ali’s attack once he got back into the middle of the ring.
“Just let [Trump] swing away for five rounds,” Carville said. “Because he can’t keep up with it. … I don’t think we need to contest everything, just let him throw haymakers. And just bob and weave and he’s going to punch himself totally out.”

Once the consequences of some of these executive orders are felt, Trump will take a hit. You’re already starting see it with farmers, auto manufacturers, unions, etc. and will eventually with the stock market.
Still, the establishment Dems have some reckoning to face. Jefferies is just laying over and playing dead. Schumer?

They need youth, and left leaning populists what used to be known know for economic progressivism.

The trump party are masters of manufacturing outrage, turning nothing into something, by sheer repetition and understanding that with this crowd it isn't what you say its how you say it. They were actually able to convince the rubes that yes, that Congressman really does think that the island will turn over and sink, that Obama, Barak Hussein Obama, was born in Kenya and raised by the KGB, and that his wearing a tan suit is proof that its all true..... (sure, it is a lower-than-whaleshit bar, but still, at the same time - !)

How COVID Pushed a Generation of Young People to the Right
It would appear that the Covid lockdowns hurt liberal parties in a number of ways. What’s driving this global Rechtsruck? It’s hard to say for sure. Maybe the entire world is casting a protest vote after several years of inflation. Last year was the largest wipeout for political incumbents in the developed world since the end of the Second World War. One level deeper, it wasn’t inflation on its own, but rather the combination of weak real economic growth and record immigration that tilled the soil for far-right upstarts, who can criticize progressive governments on both sides of the Atlantic for their failure to look out for their own citizens first.
There is another potential driver of the global right turn: the pandemic.
Pandemics might not initially seem to cash out in any particular political direction. After all, in the spring of 2020, one possible implication of the pandemic seemed to be that it would unite people behind a vision of collective sacrifice—or, at least, collective appreciation for health professionals, or for the effect of vaccines to reduce severe illness among adults. But political science suggests that pandemics are more likely to reduce rather than build trust in scientific authorities. One cross-country analysis published by the Systemic Risk Center at the London School of Economics found that people who experience epidemics between the ages of 18 and 25 have less confidence in their scientific and political leadership. This loss of trust persists for years, even decades, in part because political ideology tends to solidify in a person’s 20s.
The paper certainly matches the survey evidence of young Americans. Young people who cast their first ballot in 2024 were “more jaded than ever about the state of American leadership,” according to the Harvard Political Review. A 2024 analysis of Americans under 30 found the “lowest levels of confidence in most public institutions since the survey began.” In the past decade alone, young Americans’ trust in the president has declined by 60 percent, while their trust in the Supreme Court, Wall Street, and Congress has declined by more than 30 percent.
Another way that COVID may have accelerated young people’s Rechtsruck in America and around the world was by dramatically reducing their physical-world socializing. That led, in turn, to large increases in social-media time that boys and girls spent alone. The Norwegian researcher Ruben B. Mathisen has written that “social media [creates] separate online spheres for men and women.” By trading gender-blended hangouts in basements and restaurants for gender-segregated online spaces, young men’s politics became more distinctly pro-male—and, more to the point, anti-feminist, according to Mathisen. Norwegian boys are more and more drawn to right-wing politics, a phenomenon “driven in large part by a new wave of politically potent anti-feminism,” he wrote. Although Mathisen focused on Nordic youth, he noted that his research built on a body of survey literature showing that “the ideological distance between young men and women has accelerated across several countries.”

True. The article mentions the social isolation aspect of it. But what the article doesn‘t do is assign blame to the donks, when the young males moved right between 2020 to 2024 vis a vis Covid because it was donks way more than conks who pushed the Covid insanity.UNI88 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 1:39 pm How COVID Pushed a Generation of Young People to the Right

-Schools being closed for far longer than they should have. Should have been fully open Spring 2020. Yet many weren’t fully open until the 2nd semester of 2021 or even the fall semester of 2021. Hence the social isolationism of 2020-2021 and the expression ‘Online learning is no learning.
-The cancellation many after school activities: sports, Homecomings, Proms, graduations, clubs, etc, etc. If I was one of those kids I would be fvcking bitter at those who made those calls.
-When the kids came back to school the left pushed masks mandates that many young males see as useless. In some cases had democrats mandate the ultra stupidity of kids having to play sports in masks. Sure some kids didn‘t mind the masks, but a lot hated them.
-Pushed a vaccine mandate that many young/healthy males think didn‘t need.
-Think most young males are very aware of social media and they see that there was govt pressuring social media companies to censor people who who criticized/questioned the shit they hated: shutdowns, the effectiveness of masks, the efficacy of the shots, shot mandates, stated the belief that the virus leaked from a Chinese lab.

With young males the Covid was only the half of it. Then all these young men hear from donks is pushing woke trans ideology, men playing women’s sports, masculinity is toxic, and if you don‘t vote for Harris you‘re a sexist misogynist. Even some on the left get this:

I don't disagree with you. The dumb thing for the Democrats is that there is usually a middle ground that most voters would agree with but rather than seeking that middle ground they've taken a you have to be all in approach.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 5:05 pm With young males the Covid was only the half of it. Wicked Kathy was literally trembling in anger at the podium the other day, because Trump squashed her lifetime achievement known as congestion tax … tolling New Yorkers to death for entering Manhattan below 60th St…. 9 bucks now and that’s on top of the tolls that already existed…. Her goal is to force people onto her totally mismanaged and totally broke subway system. Well, considering the Dems punted him to the sidelines in both 2016 and 2020 (the party elite turned on him in 2016 and then did so again by telling everyone else to leave the race and support Biden's basement campaign in 2020) I don't really have a lot of hope for Bernie sticking around this time either. Maybe he's just looking for another financial kickback from the party when he steps aside again? Maybe a 3rd lakefront house is on the way? He's never really shown any appetite to stay and fight, and that was when he was 10 years younger than he is now.kalm wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 6:23 amHe was polling 10+ ahead of Trump in 2016 the week before the election.
