80% of it's power from Nuclear plants..?
I was just told today by a buddy who's working on a new Oak Ridge Project - that France derives 80% of it's electrical grid power from Nuclear power plants...?
can anybody confirm this..?
He also said that Japan and France are building most of the essential equipment on U.S. nuclear plant projects underway right now...
Recently it was proposed that we (The U.S.) build 20 Nuclear plants in 20 years... however this was mostly shot down because our Senate is very fond of OPEC and oil money in general
POLL
Edit: This was supposed to be above the POLL... oh well

I thought it was common knowledge that France had 80% nuclear power.

It's probably true that the Japanese and French are building most of the components for new nuclear plants. You can't get a generator turbine for a power plant built in the United States.

They've been giving this lip service since the original oil embargo in 1976-ish....35 years and counting and we're probably no further along than we were in 1976. So, I voted not in the next 50 years.

They'll get serious when we start having brownouts and blackouts when the wind doesn't blow.AZGrizFan wrote:They've been giving this lip service since the original oil embargo in 1976-ish....35 years and counting and we're probably no further along than we were in 1976. I'm going to be optimistic and say within the next 40 years. We probably won't build a single nuclear plant under this administration, though.

It's on Wiki, so it must be true

In France, as of 2002, Électricité de France (EDF) — the country's main electricity generation and distribution company — manages the country's 59 nuclear power plants. As of 2008[update], these plants produce 87.5% of both EDF's and France's electrical power production (of which much is exported),[1] making EDF the world leader in production of nuclear power by percentage.

It's not the oil money that is holding up (well it is on one side)
on the right - there is a lot of money and wealth in oil, coal and natural gas... they are huge industries in red states
on the left - environmental groups (the shortsighted ones) who refuse to acknowledge that life is about trade-offs block sensible alternatives like nuclear power and hydro power because they are dry humping the idea that wind and solar will ever rise above 10-15% of power needs
oddly enough, seeing that problem is what motivated Boone Pickens - he had a halfways decent idea...

This is probably the first post on the political board where I have ever agreed with TTBF...TwinTownBisonFan wrote:It's not the oil money that is holding up (well it is on one side)
