This looks bad. If NJ wanted this, they should have passed something earlier this Fall or even in the sunner. Pushing something like through this, under a lameduck Governor, will only further polarize the issue.

If my understanding is correct, it actually will change nothing but the wording of the already active civil union law.

The NJ Consitution (as interpreted by the NJ Supreme Court) requires the provision of equal rights to same-sex couples. This is really just a change from the current system of civil unions to using the term marriage.

And that change, by all polls, is favored by a majority of New Jerseyites.

Plus, the Government Commision found that CIVIL UNIONS ARE NOT EQUAL TO MARRIAGE in New Jersey.

I'd vote for it. It would actually get me to the polls to vote, which is something I haven't done since I lived in NJ.
