Free Concert by Popular Band Preceded Obama’s Big Rally

From CNN to the New York Times, the media hyped Barack Obama's Portland, Oregon rally on Sunday, some comparing him to a rock star.

Unmentioned in national reporting was the fact that Obama was preceded by a rare, 45-minute free concert by actual rock stars The Decemberists. The Portland-based band has drawn rave reviews from Rolling Stone magazine, which gave their 2005 album Picaresque four and a half stars (out of five), and another four and a half stars for 2007's The Crane Wife.

How many of the people showed up to hear Obama, and how many to hear the band?

The Decemberists usually only play during that month but after this appearance Obama promtly vowed to subsidize the band with public funds for the other 11 months.

The Decemberists are a rock band from Portland, Oregon, fronted by singer/songwriter Colin Meloy. Their debut EP, 5 Songs, was self-released in 2001. Their fourth full-length album, The Crane Wife, was released on 3 October 2006 by Capitol Records, and is the band's first appearance on a major label. Named both in reference to the Russian Decembrist Revolt and to the atmosphere associated with the month of December. The band's use of the National Anthem of the Soviet Union as an introduction at many concerts has sparked controversy as it is seen by some as an endorsement of the repressive Soviet system

I wonder if they opened this concert with the Soviet anthem? Some how that seems more than appropriate for an Obama rally.

If the lying communist owners and employees of NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, AOL/Time Warner, Reuters, AP, and McClatchy think they can bury their head in the sand (their one area of professional expertise), or pull another Animal Farm manipulation of the public information, they're going to be in for a surprise. The blog will get this out. And if Google kills the keywords in their engine, then it will be done by word of mouth.

For years, I've debated some sort of signage on a piece of property I own that backs up to the Amtrak E/W mainline in Nor.Cal...the county refused a permit request I submitted about 17 yrs back, but after driving around the U.S. for the past 18 years, I've seen some pretty inventive methods for 'getting the message out' while avoiding the govt. regulatory process. Maybe an Obama picture, that someone complains about, and as soon as the county issues their 'political' content protection ruling (takes about 10 days), some clothing is added...





What's so ironic about this, is that in Oregon, the prevailing public sentiment is quite liberal, so an event like this is not remarkable.

However, all over the Heartland/Midwest, the Rust Belt states (filled with traditional Democrats), and the Black Americans in the South and the rest of the United States who lost a family member in Vietnam (or knew a Black-American son or daughter who was killed in Vietnam), allying yourself with a demographic group that openly advocates Soviet style socialism, is an ultimate insult to every American, and more so, with Memorial Day on hand...

...AN INSULT TO EVERY AMERICAN KILLED IN THE PAST 240 YEARS WHO FOUGHT TO EARN AND PROTECT OUR LIBERTIES.

I would not waste the time to spit on Obama after this....

It would be interesting to see if BHO gave the Soviet Anthem the same crotch salute that he gave the US Anthem.
