Exactly, he mentioned several times the "independent majority." He was admitting that he won DESPITE his Republican registration. He also showed that when voters get behind something that matters, they still can make a change. I am only 28, but the historical significance of Ted Kennedy's seat going red is abundant. This is big time news, and should be a big time wake up call to everyone in Washington. If you're not speaking truthfully, and working for the people, you could be the next to go. This is a great day, not for Republicans, but for Americans. This election showed we still have some power outside of Washington. I hope the smaller parties and independents can use this to effectuate real change.Appaholic wrote:Let's hope the Republicans can learn from this unlike the democrats. Scott Brown wasn't elected because of his Republican designation, he won because he was seen as a change from the norm (& this is why Obama gott the independent vote) He all but confirmed that by what he WASN'T referencing in his acceptance speech (the Rep Natl Party....referred to himself as a conservative independent, NOT a Republican)). Just as the Dems mistook last years victories as a confirmation of liberal ideology, I hope the Rep's don't see Brown's victory as confirmation that maybe the were on the right path the previous 8 years & they don't really need to change after all. If so, they'll be turned out in 2 years like the Dems will experience later this year. Perhaps the vox populi is finally realizing that politicians should be changed as often as diapers 7 for the same reason.....AZGrizFan wrote:

If I wanted to keep independents happy I would stick myself squarely in the center-right. That's where America is. If you try to be too moonbatty in either direction, the average American independent is going to skull fvck you at the polls.ASUMountaineer wrote:Exactly, he mentioned several times the "independent majority." Coakley LOST this election. She tried to ride the dead coat tails of Ted Kennedy and failed.
Brown had 66 post-primary election events. Coakley had 19.
Coakley was so sure she house-shopped in DC. A taboo in elections.
She put out way more negative ads than Brown. That stuff turns swing-voters off.
She was someone so entrenched in politics that she lost touch with reality ala Bush Jr.
Brown should be commended though for a great campaign. He's as progressive as a Republican is nowadays. Whether or not he'll be a shining star or another face in the crowd in DC is another question for another day.
The election wasn't about Democrats or Republicans as much as some people think. It was about someone so out-of-touch having a good lead and the other person smelling blood and working hard to win.
I can't wait to tell my celebrating right-wing friends what Brown's stances on abortion are.
Now you may resume your partisan bickering you assholes.
