Well, there are plenty of red meat issues to discuss.JMU DJ wrote:native wrote:

Sure, but instead of talking about the issues, countless threads have been started about bigotry and racism, countless news articles/media stories are published in this regard. The racist accusations have become the focus of Health Care Reform and of the Tea Party instead of the actual issues themselves, thus this is what we are left with. Finger pointing from both sides of the issue when the issue isn't even being discussed. As I said earlier, it's clear that race is playing a role in some peoples decisions (let's say 1%), however there is a majority out there (members of whatever group) who oppose health care based off of aspects of the reform bill and aren't letting pettiness drive their decision. In the past few weeks though, no one seems to care to talk about the issues... just polls, race, socialism, guns, etc.
Real racism is one such issue. Race baiting is another. False accusations of racism is yet another. In the case of health care, I think the race discussions are mostly off target and prevent us from addressing and resolving real "bread and butter" issues.
