This is a ridiculous test. I can spot at least a half-dozen flaws at a quick glance. It also exposes some of the writer's biases.

I agree the test is deeply flawed and biased, CitadelGrad. For example, asking an immigration question without distinguishing between legal and illegal immigration is an egregious error.CitadelGrad wrote:This is a ridiculous test. However, I am not sure it is ridiculous. My recommendation is, "buyer beware." Take it with a grain or two of salt.

I am actually quite liberal by most people's standards Native. I am an atheist. I believe my moral life is my affair, and none of your "gods" business. I am very much pro-legalization of marijuana, and also a hard core environmentalist. My personal belief is that the best thing that could happen to the Earth is a human-only virus with a 100% mortality rate.native wrote:You are mighty darn fair minded and insightful in most of your posts, DD.death dealer wrote:Liberal. The description is pretty true, but doesn't take into account any financial positions. It also implies that I would by default be a democrat, which is not even close to the case. I am firmly independent, and so much a hybrid that I could never identify with a single party.I would not have guessed.
At the same time, and probably is responsible for my extreme views on the environment, I am an avid hunter and fisherman. I own lots of guns, but no handguns (not because I don't think they are OK, just cause they don't serve any of my needs), and would love to have you over to show you my new 45 gun safe I just had delivered a couple of weeks ago. I am pretty much a pacficist, but would cut your nuts off and feed them to you right before I cut your throat and dismembered you if you ever harmed my family. And would vote to aquit any man who did the same if I were on his jury.
I think the government has no business telling anyone who they can or cannot marry. In general, I think the govt. is a bunch of fuck ups and have serious mistrust of anyone who makes it their life mission to serve as an elected official.
I think that one of the responsibilities of govt. in addition to protecting private property is to provide a safety net for it's citizens in times of trouble. But I also know that human nature is such that a certain % of the population will choose to take advantage of that, often to their own detriment.. Those people need to have their ass kicked.
There's lots of other things I could say, but what's the point. I don't agree with any one party on everything, and generally think they are all full of shit. One thing I hate more than anything else in the world, with maybe the exception of MaineJeff, is someone who blindly follows a party ideology and can't, no matter how ludicuous the action, ever find fault with said party. I can't stomach a sheep. That is the worst kind of pussy ass in my book.
Dear lord... please allow this dangerous combination of hair spary, bat slobber, and D.O.T. four automatic transmission fluid to excite my mind, occupy my spirits, and enrage my body, provoking me to kick any man or woman in the back of the head regardless of what he or she has or has not done unto me. All my Best, Earlie Cuyler.

Liberal...but that doesn't really seem to fit since the most liberal ideas on there I didn't agree with. I'm more moderate...

I got liberal, as well, and not exactly surprising, but like some other people here said, I doubt I could identify with democrats 100%.

Re: Take the Pew Typology Test
I came out as an "Enterpriser," but I really don't think the options fully capture the spectrum of outlooks. There are no questions on things such as, "Do you think recreational drug use should be legal," or "Do you think prostitution should be legal," so on and so forth. There's not enough in there to really capture the Libertarian outlook.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Re: Enterprisers
Interesting. It identified me as an "Enterpriser", yet I'm not a big fan of the Patriot Act, I'm fine with gay marriage, I don't own a small business, I haven't attended church in about 15 years, haven't attended bible study EVER...native wrote:From the previously referenced Pew article:
Enterprisers are ... driven by a belief in the free enterprise system and social values that reflect a conservative agenda.... also the strongest backers of an assertive foreign policy, which includes nearly unanimous support for the war in Iraq and strong support for such anti-terrorism efforts as the Patriot Act. ...Assertive on foreign policy and patriotic; anti-regulation and pro-business; very little support for government help to the poor; strong belief that individuals are responsible for their own well being. Conservative on social issues such as gay marriage, but not much more religious than the nation as a whole. Very satisfied with personal financial situation.... 59% have a gun in the home; 53% trade stocks and bonds, and 30% are small business owners all of which are the highest percentages among typology groups. 48% attend church weekly; 36% attend bible study or prayer group meetings. ...Enterprisers follow news about government and politics more closely than any other group, and exhibit the most knowledge about world affairs.
Other than that, right on the money.

Re: Take the Pew Typology Test
OK guys, this quiz is COMPLETE BULLSHIT.
I hit the back button and left all of my answers the same except for moving my views of my own beliefs to: Independent, Lean Democrat and Liberal and I went from Enterpriser to Liberal. What a friggen waste of time.

Social Conservative.
I think what pretty much pigeon holed me was my strong belief in making people do the right thing.
Kind of odd, because I actually consider myself socially liberal in that I really don't care what most people do, but believe we have a good portion of assholes that always take things too far. They need their shit controlled.
