My main concern is that the data gathered by scientist is concentrated to what thet are finding on the surface. I think it is reasonable to think that there is massive amounts of oil below the surface that the scientist are not factoring into their recorded data. I think things are much worse than what can be "measured" at the current time and I also think there is evidence to support this claim. Unfortunately.∞∞∞ wrote:Have to agree with this. As someone dealing with the direct numbers the field scientists are sending us from coastal land, it's really not that bad. Actually, there are no risks right now to coastal life, but precautions should still be made. But like JohnStOnge said, things can change, and quickly somtimes. It only takes ONE spike in any of the substances being tested to make it hazardous for ecosystems.JohnStOnge wrote:You know, people, at this point I, as someone who is having to spend a lot more time working on the oil spill thing than I'd like to, am going to say something:
It's bad. But at this point it's not THAT bad. One thing I have determined to date is that what has actually happened in terms of adverse consequences really isn't that much.
Now, that could change. I have my worries. But I'm getting more and more optimstic that the actual consequences of this thing won't be NEARLY as bad as what was feared.
That's usually the way it is, too. Not always. But usually.

That oil slick is HUGE...and there isn't any way in hell that it isn't going to continue to get bigger. You could put a thousand ships out there with booms and dispersants and it would not be able to stop the spread of that slick. If it catches that current, it will impact the keys.
As you can tell by the satellite images, the oil isn't getting "absorbed" into the environment at a rate fast enough to prevent the slick from growing. Toss in another month or two of more oil gushing out of the well...it will spread even further. Better hope we don't get an early season tropical storm.
Odd though, that the two satellite images show the tail of that slick going in opposite directions. One is curved like a comma and the other like the tail end of a q. <---- OK, that q ( <--- nor that one) doesn't have a curve at the bottom

For those just tuning in and not wanting to read the whole thread.
Cluck U is having trouble as there is no curve in his q. He can't make his point without it. It was a good one too so that is a shame.
Mainjeff is a cunt and has added slightly less to this discussion than Ursus has...and that's sayin' something.

Re: Worry that Gulf oil spreading into major current
I've given it some thought (about 5 minutes...and I was actually busy reading another thread, so don't hold me to this) and I've come to the conclusion that there is no spill. It is a giant hoax designed to keep our minds off the economy and the glitch on Wall Street. The satellite images are fake...someone at the government got their comma mixed up with a q...and Microsoft is conspiring to prevent anyone from telling the story. So, I'm going to single handidly break the story in a way that will shock the world:Ursus A. Horribilis wrote:For those just tuning in and not wanting to read the whole thread.

The spill looks like a comma in one alleged satellite photo, and a g, without the left hand part of the bottom circle, in the other.
YOU CAN"T STOP ME MR. GOVERNMENT! AND NEITHER CAN THAT FONT LIMITING MICROSOFT COLLABORATOR OF YOURS!

Nah, the Republicans are reporting the spill leaning to the left and the Democrats have it leaning to the right.houndawg wrote:Different filters, different spectrums?Cluck U wrote: Odd though, that the two satellite images show the tail of that slick going in opposite directions. This really sucks - I was reading that this stuff has the thickness of latex paint.
This will kill Florida's tourism this year and severely impact it going forward not to mention what damage occurs to the fisheries.

No big deal, oil is a natural substance that really isn't all that dangerous or harmful.93henfan wrote:"The day that we've been fearing is upon us today." - Bobby Jindal

Why would those ecoterrorist waste all that chocolate syrup in a vain attempt to convince us that this oil is bad? They just created a delicious mess with these obviously fake photos.
