Rep Luis Guitierrez nails Conks on 14th Amend changes

Post by dbackjon »

Actually, I agree with Senator McConnell. We absolutely should hold hearings as soon as possible to discuss whether we should amend the U.S. Constitution to make newborns deportable. We need a high-level national discussion in both Houses of Congress on the issue of whether to station federal ICE agents in every maternity ward and delivery room right between the OB-GYN and the expectant father.

Imagine a United States where every birth initiates an investigation to determine the citizenship and immigration status of each parent. Let's have the hearing so we can take careful notes when the Republican's witness explains how this government intrusion into maternal and child health -- burdening our health care system and discouraging pregnant women from seeking medical care (while perhaps discouraging claims of paternity) -- is justified to secure our borders and protect the core liberties of America. I would love to hear the opening remarks of Judiciary Committee Members Lindsey Graham in the Senate or Lamar Smith in the House broadcast live from coast-to-coast on C-SPAN. I can hear it now. "Mr. Chairman, I would like to express my support for a full federal background check and proof of citizenship for every precious human life."

While we are at it, I think we should subpoena prominent Republicans like Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and former Senator Pete Domenici of New Mexico to explain how they have ruined our country with their automatic U.S. citizenship. Under at least some of the legislative proposals supported by the Republicans, neither one would be citizens because one or more of their parents were not permanent legal residents of the U.S. at the time of their birth. Let's get Olympic Gold Medalist Henry Cejudo and NASA Astronaut Jose "Astro Jose" Hernandez on the witness stand to defend all that they have robbed from the United States by usurping U.S. citizenship. At long last, the GOP has come up with the legislative strategy to guarantee that no man or woman can rise from humble origins, with a father who is legally present on a student visa, to sit in the Oval Office as President of the United States.

So in other words, illegals are encouraged to "hurry up and get pregnant after illegally crossing the border because the anchor baby will guarantee that we won't be deported?"

C'mon, there has to be some middle ground here. :ohno:

No, in other words, in the list of problems this country is facing, anchor babies are down in the 1000's in importance.

This is being bandied about SOLELY for political reasons. Won't impact immigration in any noticible way.

Tell me ONE THING regarding immigration that ISN'T being "bandied about for political reasons"?

The only reason immigration is even on the fucking RADAR is because AZ's governor had the balls (figuratively, I think) to force the Feds' hand on this issue. This is like a fuckin' hot potato in DC...nobody wants to solve it, they want to AVOID it. At all costs.

Has either party done anything non-political about this issue for the past, well, forever? It's always political. Dems are just as guilty as the GOP in evn talking about the 14th ammendment - both see it as a way to score political points. That's how the game is played.

No - the Republicans, lead by Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, are TRYING TO MAKE it an important issue in the minds of the voters. They are getting slapped down, appropriately.

The closest border for me is the local Taco Bell :D , but it seems to me that the increasing power of the Mexican Cartels, the incredible escalation of murders in Mexican border states, and the imminent probability of that creeping over into the US unfettered have brought this up. You can't separate the drug running illegals without discussing the entire immigration issue.

The Constitution does not need to change...anyone born here SHOULD receive citizenship (unless they are in that exempt group like diplomats)...

But to call them "Anchor" babies implies the Constitution says we can't deport their parents if they are here illegally... WRONG!!!

The illegal parents need to make a choice...give up their child to someone here legally and get deported...or take their dependent U.S. Citizen child with them when they are departed...the child can return as a citizen once they are majority age and can make decision/support themself...

Illegal Alien Costs Rising Sharply
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestof ... s.cost.cnn" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ^ | April 9, '09 | Lou Dobbs

Illegal alien families are using welfare and social services more than ever in the recession. In Los Angeles County alone the cost is more than $1 billion per year. They are costing more than $40 billion per year than what they pay in taxes. Strictly speaking, they shouldn't be eligible for any such services. But for a variety of reasons they're receiving them, one reason being their "anchor babies."

WASHINGTON, April 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Simultaneous studies, released this week by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), show soaring costs of illegal immigration in Florida and demonstrate strong voter objections to the burdens placed on them by illegal immigration. A new Zogby International poll of 801 likely voters across the state found that, by an overwhelming margin, Floridians believe that illegal immigration is harming their state. Their perceptions are rooted in reality. A separate FAIR study, the Costs of Illegal Immigration to Floridians found that providing education and health care to illegal aliens and their families, and incarcerating criminal illegal aliens, costs state taxpayers more than $3.8 billion annually, more than double the costs measured in 2005.

The Costs of Illegal Immigration to Floridians found that taxpayers spend:
* $3.4 billion a year to educate illegal immigrant children and the U.S. born children of illegal immigrants.
* $290 million a year on unreimbursed health care for illegal aliens.
* $90 million a year to incarcerate criminal illegal aliens.

* The California seeks more federal aid for cost of keeping illegal immigrant inmates
Los Angeles Times ^ | April 11, 2009 | Richard Simon

Fifteen years after Congress promised that Washington would help states pick up the tab for imprisoning illegal immigrants convicted of crimes, California is receiving but a fraction -- less than 12 cents on the dollar -- of its nearly $1-billion annual cost.

The unfulfilled promise is perhaps the most glaring example of the federal government shortchanging California.
Officials from states greatly affected by illegal immigration long have argued that their taxpayers should not have to bear the burden for Washington's failure to control the border.

Pretty easy to find these stories on the cost of illegals to the country.
I could post these all day
-----

STUDY: 22% of 2007 Felonies Caused by Illegals
Radio Station KFYI ^ | October 2, 2008 | kfyi.com

Arizona taxpayers shell out $114 million annually to cover the cost of incarcerating them.
Click here to read the study

A new study from the Maricopa County Attorney is showing that illegal immigrants are responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime.

Data used in the report wasn't gathered until the passage of Prop 100 two years-ago.
The voter-approved law denies bail to those in the country illegally accused of a class 4 felony or above.
The study concluded that nine percent of Arizona's population is in the country illegally, yet nearly 22 percent of felonies sentenced in Maricopa County are committed by illegal immigrants.
Arizona taxpayers shell out $114 million annually to cover the cost of incarcerating them.

The Constitution does not need to change...anyone born here SHOULD'T receive citizenship if they were born to illegal immigrant parents. The 14th Amendment was written to deal with recently freed slaves. It was NOT intended to deal with children of illegal immigrants. And they are "anchor babies" in that once they reach age 18, they can petition for immigrant visas for other family members. One anchor baby several decades later can mean a whole family is brought over. Hence the term "anchor"

Granted the 14th ammendment wasn't initially written to deal with illegal immigrants. Of course, that was because there was no such thing as an illegal immigrant at the time because of our nation's open immigration policy. But we've had immigration laws on the books for the past 130 some years, and not once did we try to overturn that part of the 14th ammendment or restrict it. We've set a pretty long precedent of letting the 14th ammendment, by default, be applied to children of illegal immigrants.
