How does YOUR town want to be stimulated?

Post by dbackjon »

My quarter-million plus city wants $130.8 million of stimulation!!

Chandler submits $130.8 million wish list

Chandler residents could see faster road improvements, energy-efficient street lights, and a new mass transit option if Congress approves a federal economic stimulus program proposed by President-elect Barack Obama to create jobs.

Cities submitted their wish lists to Maricopa Association of Governments, which released Valley municipalities' combined $6.8 billion request Monday. To qualify, most of the projects have to be "ready to go" with no significant design or planning delays.

Before communities start counting their stimulus dollars, Congress would have to approve the program, which could be modified in the legislative process.

Among Chandler's requests:

• Mill and overlay city streets: $12.5 million.

• Rebuild intersection at Dobson Road and Chandler Boulevard: $10.4 million.

• Replace aging water pipes through downtown: $2.8 million.

• Improve Gilbert Road from Germann to Queen Creek roads: $13 million.

• Upgrade the entire city's street light system with LED technology to reduce electric bills: $9 million.
