Repubs Make Historic Gains in State Legislatures

Post by native »

From the stateline website:

"Republicans won smashing victories in state legislatures yesterday, capturing an outright majority of the nation's legislative seats and the largest majority for the party since 1928.

As of noon Eastern Time, Republicans had taken about 18 legislative chambers from Democrats, with more statehouses hanging in the balance. Democrats hadn't picked up a single chamber from Republicans...."

The Texas Senate appears to have remained relatively stable in the hands of Republicans, but Republicans significantly increased their control of the state Assembly.

"...About 20 incumbent Democrats were trailing Republican opponents, based on incomplete returns Tuesday evening. No Republican incumbents appeared to be losing.

Even the leader of the House Democrats, Rep. Jim Dunnam of Waco, was trailing in a race that was too close to call.

When Tuesday's winners are sworn in for next year's legislative session, the 150-member House is likely to include at least 95 Republicans, compared with the current split of 77 Republicans and 73 Democrats, based on the results Tuesday evening. ..."

NC transferred both houses of legislature to Republican power for the first time since 1898...finally. Thank god we might actuall start controlling some of the corruption that has resulted in our $3bil budget shortfall from the dem "leadership"

The GOP kicked major ass here in Florida yesterday... increasing their majorities to over 2/3 in both state houses, winning the gubernatorial election and scoring a clean sweep in the cabinet elections.

To say the dems are reeling here in the Sunshine State is a major understatement.

Iowa through out a D governor and put in a R.

The Iowa House flipped from 56-44 D majority to 59-41 R majority.
The Iowa Senate flipped from a 32-18 D majority to a likely 27-23 D majority. Two of the seats will probably have recounts because they are so close so it could change to a 26-24 or 25-25 tie.

In Colorado, the Republicans now have a 33-32 edge in the State House and the Democrats have an 18-17 advantage in the State Senate, making the 100-member state legislature split 50-50.

Arkansas

Senate- Repubs displaced Blanche Lincoln and put Boozman in office. +1 for the Repubs on a national scale.
House- Repubs hold a 3-1 edge. The southern and delta parts of the state historically go Democrat.
Governor- Went to Democrat Mike Beebe..in a landslide. (Got my vote)

The GOP picked up the state House in PA and the governor's mansion, after already holding the state Senate. Will probably mean, with PA losing an electoral vote as a result of the census, that two Democratic districts will be gerrymandered together before the next election.

In Montgomery County, the good news for Republicans is we did not lose a single seat in the state legislature or county council. :thumb: Of course we didn't have any to lose in the first place.

Turns out that the Dems lost 22 seats in the Texas House, allowing Repubs to to obtain a 99-51 seat majority. This was even more seats than the 18-20 losses prognosticated on election night:

Join the club:
Democrats control nearly everything in Delaware: the congressional delegation, both chambers of the Legislature, the statewide offices of governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, treasurer and insurance commissioner, plus almost every elected office in Wilmington and New Castle County.

The only statewide Republican officeholder is Auditor Tom Wagner, a 21-year incumbent who eked out a 2,600-vote win on Tuesday.

This is all Ivytalk, Cluck U, and ChickenMan's fault. They need to whip New Castle County into shape. Bunch of God-damned liberals up there. :ohno:
