Here's something that I've seen Tman talk about in another thread a while back.

Like I've said before...

Some industries require (need to have) the employees maintain "representation". I've seen plenty of cases, private and public, where the workers are being exploited to the detriment of their health as well as their pocketbook. The discrepancies between regions is vast and truly amazing. The jackoff's like Seroka and Mazaruski (sic), harm all of the "legit" unions throughout the world, not just the U.S.
I'm very good friends with an "Upper" (pronounced "ooh-pur"...from upper peninsula of MI) who worked in a union (not UAW) his entire life. He's very defensive of the unions, but shuts down when folks like these two are discussed. What's remarkable, is that the rust belt union members view their unionization as an "entitlement" that every person in that industry has a "right" to...yet NONE I've ever spoken too will discuss the disparity of cola's and wages within the scope of their region. I once "debated" a pipefitter foreman from Wisconsin, whose package worked out to $112/hr ("burdened" with emp. tax & work comp). For that pay, he stood around reviewing employee time slips/work orders (project slips), and answered questions. I confronted him with a WORKING pipefitter foreman's wages from Dallas,TX, total burdened wages of $35, whose duties were similar, but who also worked "on the line" producing all day. The WI foreman, first accused me of lying, until I showed him the published wage scale from a "Government Prevailing Wage" project (generally mirrors the local union scale), and showed him the TX company's project portfolio from their website. He then challenged the "cost of living" factors, until I showed him the "fact finding" of HIS OWN UNIONS M.O.U....which verified a cost of living index LOWER than the national average. Finally, he alleged that union representation was necessary to protect worker's rights, at which point I stopped, leaned back in my chair and started laughing. The company he worked for was a third generation cryogenic systems manufacturing/repair company WHICH HAD NO COMPETITION IN THEIR REGION, AND GENERALLY RETAINED EMPLOYEES FOR 15-40 YEARS!!!!!! In fact, I worked with their purchasing agent who was retiring that year after 47 YEARS with the company...AND HE WAS A NON-CLASSIFIED worker.
Anyway, the stories I could tell go on and on...but the bottom line is, unions ARE necessary IN SOME INDUSTRIES, however, the UAW and Service Employees Internation Union have DESTROYED much of American industry through their gluttoness, greedy, dishonest, self-destructive, (and often criminal) philosophies and practices. You used to be able to Google union locals in the Detroit region and view all the UAW and SEIU locals...but recently I noticed it doesn't work. The last time I was able to check, there were 46 UAW locals within a 10 mi radius of dtown Detroit. 46...think about that...in one case, I found two locals within two blocks of each other.
I'm a capitalist, but I've been a union organizer and don't besmirch the need for unions, so when I see stuff like this video...I get so GD angry, I want to take a P/U full of fellow union members, a box of baseball bats, and go clean house.

 Ever the apologist for poor management.

Only 7.5% of the country's private sector workforce is unionized, you sound like those bitter-end fanatical Japanese soldiers that kept popping up on Pacific islands in the 80's still fighting the war. American industry was destroyed by short-sighted management; management driven by the quarterly P&L statement to which their bonuses were tied; management that refused to spend the money necessary to modernize their factories and steel mills; auto execs that wouldn't give guys like J. Juran and W. Edwards Deming and Malcom Baldridge the time of day. The list goes on an on. It's time for the shareholders of American industry to rise up and outsource US management and their bloated salaries and pensions and benefits and perqs. Get some Japanese execs and managers over here and the world's most productive workers will be right back on track.
You matter. Unless you multiply yourself by c squared. Then you energy.

Hey, Einstein, let's unionize every industry that's had robber baron management and see where that gets us. :?

I don't get why it's always a GD argument and finger pointing match. We all know that the problem is with both some crappy mgmt. and also with some corrupt and bloated union shit. They both need fixing and that's that. I'd sure hate to see a guy come into an emergency room with two or three gunshot wounds and the doctors thought patching one up would do the trick and send him on his way.

There ain't no damned way our lazy union workers would stand for the requirements foisted upon them by Japanese managers. You know it. I know it.
