Veterans

Post by Chemhen »

It's nearly a week late, but I didn't see this until today and I think its still worth saying. I think we all pay credit to those who serve in the military on Veteran's Day, but too many of us (myself included, if I'm being completely honest) forget about them from time to time. We honor them for their service overseas, but not enough attention is paid to the effects of combat on soldiers returning home.

In 2009, more soldiers committed suicide than died in combat in the Iraq War. Again, in 2009, more soldiers committed suicide than died in combat in the Iraq War. These are sacrifices that, in many instances, need not be made. Many of us know someone who fought overseas, and we should all be aware of the warning signs of suicide and depression (and know that most suicide victims don't exhibit symptoms). Please get involved and remember that their sacrifice doesn't end once they come home.

That's either a testament to modern warfare tactics or a damnation of the stresses being felt by our returning soldiers/sailors.

Or both. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:
