ANTI-TERROR bosses last night hailed their latest ally in the war on terror — the BLACK DEATH.

At least 40 al-Qaeda fanatics died horribly after being struck down with the disease that devastated Europe in the Middle Ages.

The killer bug, also known as the plague, swept through insurgents training at a forest camp in Algeria, North Africa. It came to light when security forces found a body by a roadside.

The victim was a terrorist in AQLIM (al-Qaeda in the Land of the Islamic Maghreb), the largest and most powerful al-Qaeda group outside the Middle East.

It trains Muslim fighters to kill British and US troops.

Now al-Qaeda chiefs fear the plague has been passed to other terror cells — or Taliban fighters in Afghanistan.

We do. I first heard "rumors" about this last Tue. the 13th through an Israeli news service...but it seems western intel was apparently trying to keep this under wraps...for many reasons, least of which to buy time so they could get some "blockade" on black market supplies...I suspect with the intention of forcing the others to seek "public" medical aid, or die...either way, they're out of commish. Twixt Moroccan, Algerian and Nigerian cells that "co-mingle, there's a possibility that somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 may have been exposed.

When I saw it was "public" earlier this eve...I pulled up some old vid clips to remind me that rats do have a noble purpose in this world (though with a historic rap as gruesome, macabre, even surrealistic, but in some cases like this, noble)...

Yup, and it's a treatable infection too. I used to work on making these types of vaccines for the troops. The plague still infects people in the USA, but if you look at where a majority of the cases of untreated/dead are found, it's found in these regions in Africa and Asia. Carefull AZ, DBack, and all you other CSers out in Arizona... that's where most cases of the plague spring up in America.

authorities in the first week of January intercepted an urgent communication between the leadership of al Qaeda in the Land of the Maghreb (AQIM) and al Qaeda's leadership in the tribal region of Pakistan on the border with Afghanistan. The communication suggested that an area sealed to prevent leakage of a biological or chemical substance had been breached, according to the official.

"We don't know if this is biological or chemical," the official said.

The story was first reported by the British tabloid the Sun, which said the al Qaeda operatives died after being infected with a strain of bubonic plague, the disease that killed a third of Europe's population in the 14th century. But the intelligence official dismissed that claim.

AQIM, according to U.S. intelligence estimates, maintains about a dozen bases in Algeria, where the group has waged a terrorist campaign against government forces and civilians. In 2006, the group claimed responsibility for an attack on foreign contractors. In 2007, the group said it bombed U.N. headquarters in Algiers, an attack that killed 41 people.

For any pathogen to leave the realm of Mother Nature and enter the sinister realm of bioweapon, it needs a microbiologist to weaponize it. Which is why the December 2008 news that al-Qaeda operative Yazid Sufaat was released from a Malaysian jail is incredibly disturbing. Sufaat is the microbiologist who once oversaw al-Qaeda’s germ warfare programs. He was jailed in 2001, after FBI agents discovered he had hosted an al-Qaeda in Malaysia event in January 2000. Two of the 9/11 hijackers, Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi, attended that event.

According to the FBI, Yazid Sufaat graduated from California State University at Sacramento — with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences.
