A Missouri House member apologizes for any offense caused when he referred to the Civil War as the “War of Northern Aggression.”
The comment from Bryan Stevenson came during debate Tuesday on a resolution urging federal leaders to oppose an abortion proposal that could overrule many state-level restrictions.
The Republican from the southwest Missouri town of Webb City said it would be the “greatest power grab by the federal government since the War of Northern Aggression.”

It was a war of northern aggression. The Confederacy did not invade the north until more than two years after the war began. If they South had wanted to invade the north, it could easily have done so when the northern army was routed at the Battle of Bull Run. When the yankees retreated, there was nothing between the Army of Northern Virginia and Washington, DC.

The first modes of aggression during the Civil war was the Confederacy attacking the US forces in Fort Sumter... then "Northern Aggression" started. EDIT: Didn't realize I was responding to a CIT grad, you should know where the first action was being that Fort Sumter is relatively close to Charleston
The politician shouldn't apologize though, the analogy is a valid one in that if you look at the political reasons for why the south seceded. Federal government trying to take the power away from State governments.... (though most agree the reason the Federal gov was trying to take away certain State powers was over the slavery issue... ) Which is what his analogy is all about, the Federal government overstepping their boundaries into the States territory

For those of you not familiar wih the Biff's / Citdog's (or any other El Cid grad) argument synopsis of the "War of Northern Aggression", it goes something like this......dbackjon wrote:We just need Biff and Citdog to chime in now

...when if fact, it was more like Uncle Billy's March To The Sea. a pure rout of the ungrateful insurrectionists...
