The Citadel reveals inaction on its own child abuse scandal
CHARLESTON, South Carolina (Reuters) - In the wake of the Penn State child sex abuse scandal, another university, The Citadel military college in South Carolina, revealed on Saturday that it had investigated accusations against a camp counselor but took no action.
The man has since been jailed on separate charges of molesting five boys in Mount Pleasant, near Charleston, South Carolina.
"We regret that we did not pursue this matter further," Citadel President Lt. General John Rosa and Board of Visitors Chair Doug Snyder said in a statement.
The Citadel said it investigated four years ago accusations of inappropriate conduct with children by Louis Neal "Skip" ReVille, who was a counselor at the military school's camp.

Re: The Citadel reveals inaction on its own child abuse scan
The 2002 incident was investigated and police notified. Nothing emerged the warranted any more action at the time. I also think the parents wanted to keep privacy over the matter which limited the investigation some. We at least took some action unlike the Penn State administration. The further action I think Rosa is mentioning is only to say that Skip's admission now is obvious a sign that the 2002 incident was more than likely true and the investigation was not thorough enough to prove it. That is different than saying the 2007 investigation of the 2002 incident found that Skip did something and the Citadel just slapped him on the wrist.
Either way a sad turn of events for us Citadel supporters.

There was a 169 page report from the investigation in 2007. A redacted form is to be published publicly soon. I will post link once it is out.

It does look like The Citadel did a better job than Penn State.
Still, I am getting tired of the "But he is a good guy" excuse.

The family was not willing to cooperate, wiseguy. Unless you are hoping for a police state, there needs to be a cooperative victim.dbackjon wrote:And they did nothing as well?CID1990 wrote:

Wasn't trying to be a wiseguy. Just trying to figure out what happened.
Re: The Citadel reveals inaction on its own child abuse scan
All the more reason to believe something serious happened. No doubt the Pedital, like the catholic church, intimidated/threatened or paid victims to be silent.CID1990 wrote:The family was not willing to cooperate, wiseguy. The family of the victim is still refusing to talk. Like back then, i think they are trying to maintain their privacy.D1B wrote:All the more reason to believe something serious happened. Sounds like the incident was reported and the police got a little behind on their paperwork.
