UM ends contract with Russell Athletic
By Gazette News Services
MISSOULA - The University of Montana has canceled its licensing agreement with Russell Athletic over concerns the sports clothing manufacturer violated the rights of unionized workers at a Honduran factory.
UM Vice President Jim Foley says the university came to its decision after discussing findings with the Workers Rights Consortium and the Fair Labor Association.
A UM group called Students for Economic and Social Justice, which opposes sweatshops, had been urging UM administrators to cancel the contract.
Russell has denied the anti-union allegations and says it has created of a Corporate Social Responsibility Improvement Process to review its stance on worker rights and community involvement.

And I believe that was the main point of contention amongst the hippies; they didn't like the idea of the university selling stuff that was made with sweatshop labor.hank scorpio wrote:It seems to me in the last few years, most of the merchandise has been Underarmor and Nike.

Eventually everything will be either UA or Nike.

http://missoulian.com/articles/2009/03/ ... news07.txtFor weeks, Students for Economic and Social Justice, an activist group on campus, has urged UM administrators to cancel the contract after allegations that in October Russell closed a garment factory in Honduras after several hundred of the 1,800 workers there unionized.
Last Friday, the students protested outside Main Hall with gags in their mouths and holding signs that said things such as, “Inaction is action,” “Cut the contract” and “Workers rights are human rights.”
The student group is known for its boisterous protests. Last year, eight UM students associated with the group were arrested for taking over President George Dennison's Office for several hours, demanding that the university sign onto an anti-sweatshop policy called the Designated Suppliers Program.

I very much dislike hippies....No, Cleets Part (whatever) does not count as a hippie.
