While it doesn't happen too often, usually when a Palestinian goes on a killing spree in Israel, it is an armed citizen that kills the attacker before authorities can arrive.

Can we agree to table this fucking political shit for 24 hours and grieve for these poor children and their parents? :ohno:

If not now, when?

"It's too soon to talk about gun laws"

We heard that right after Columbine, again after Virginia Tech and then after Tucson and Aurora.

For 20 small children and six adults in Newtown, CT yesterday, it's too late.

If we stopped putting off the discussion and action, those 26 people may still be alive today.

We should not wait a single day to start talking about it. Action needs to be taken.

So just because a hundred or so UNARMED people were killed in the last 20 years by mass shooters you think its OK to penalize 300 million people?

I love the minority, they think they matter.

141 people have been killed in mass shootings since the beginning of 2008. 255 people have been killed since Columbine.

Of course this doesn't include the thousands killed by gunfire in non mass shootings in the same time period, those one or two victims at a time are no less important than any other victims. However, it is the mass shootings like yesterday that get people talking and the events that will lead to change.

So what would your plan be? Don't say gun control, we've heard that. What does that mean to you?

Does it mean that we follow Australia's lead? Does it mean that we make laws that people who get guns illegally won't follow begin with?

What does it mean?

I don't know what the perfect plan should be. But it needs to be discussed and acted on. Should it mean a complete ban of guns? I'm not saying it should. But it should be a lot more difficult to purchase guns in this country. You shouldn't be able to go to a gun show and buy guns without background checks, you shouldnt be able to go on craigslist, set up a meeting and buy a 50-caliber sniper rifle.

Can there ever be a perfect plan? Probably not. Can legislation be written that can make the United States safer from mass shootings and any shootings in general? Yes.

The NRA and Second Amendment supporters need to come to the table and be willing to make concessions, surely we can agree the world we live in today is vastly different than the one that the Second Amendment was written in.

18,693 sidewalks have gone unshoveled since 2009. More than 11,000 people get injured by snow shovels and snow shoveling each and every year!

Of course this doesn't include the thousands and thousands hurt and killed by your dirt shovels, your plastic shovel (and pail), and grain shovels just to name a few. We will never forget those lost in the infamous chicken slaughter in Alameda in 2011.

Exactly. Some of the places that have the most restrictive gun laws have the most crime. How many people have died in Chicago this year? How many in NY or DC? You can ban every gun in the big cities and there will still be gun crime.

So I hear all this about giving teachers guns. What would stop a kid from getting a hold of that gun? Lock it up? Not sure it would be smart to have that easy of access in high schools. Also what does this cost? There are a lot of teachers. Do subs get a gun? Or a key to the teachers gun Or do teachers just bring their own if they want?

Plus theres a lot of parents who wouldn't want their kids to go a school where teachers have guns. Htis wouldn't work in a public school. Could work in a private one.

If you look at other countries with gun laws like ours (Denmark) they don't have mass shooting problems like we do. I hate the saying "guns don't kill people, people do" but its true. Violence is glorified in our country.

There are background checks on guns.

Let me get this straight from all of the anti-gun fellows.

"Guns need to be regulated better because this guy STOLE guns from his mom."

Anybody else here see a problem with that rationalization?

This discussion our country needs to, and will undertake now is not about banning all guns, it will be about better gun control and banning weapons and accessories such as fully automatic rifles and 100 round clips.

In the eight years since the Automatic Weapons Ban expired when the Republican controlled Congress refused to renew it, mass shootings in the United States have nearly tripled.

I own guns. I'm not anti-gun. But in Texas I don't need a background check or registration. I think that people will get guns if they want but it will help to know that it is harder for people with a criminal history or mental illness to get them. Clearly a ban doesn't work because pot is illegal and easy to get.

Its like the Simpsons when Homer wants to buy a gun "A five day waiting period? But I'm angry now!"
