Would You Buy a Peugeot?

Post by SuperHornet »

They claim to be working on a hybrid that runs on compressed air about 60-80% of the time (which they equate to city driving conditions, or anything below 43 mph). Once the car's speed hits that magic 43 mph, the engine switches over to the gas engine. Peugeot is predicting average gas mileage of 117 miles/gal. They think this car will be at dealers in 2016.

Their rationale for going for this is to lower people's gas bills. They think that because of supply and demand, the price will go down because demand goes south. Just one problem with that. The oil companies don't give a rip about that. They'll jack the price up anyway in an effort to recoup their overhead. Doesn't make sense form a S&D point of view, but the last few years, Big Oil hasn't played by the rules, so why would they start now?

Gas prices are driven by oil futures prices. Oil futures prices are driven by predicted demand.

That being said, I somehow doubt Peugeot is going to put enough of these on the road to drive down demand to the point where prices come down measurably.

yahoo India?

I'm not getting too excited about Peugeot attempting to reestablish a dealer network in the US although Fiat seems to be getting some legs again.

On our Italy trip I tried to upgrade from this Fiat:

to this Peugeot:

....unsuccessfully. :ohno:

I never knew anyone who bought a Peugeot who didn't regret it later. The old joke was that you'd actually have to buy two Peugeots, one to drive and one for spare parts.

As my old mechanic used to say, never buy a car made by people who fight with their feet and fuck with their faces. :thumb:

My favorite is the old saw:

Hell is a British chef, French engineer and a German cop.

I would sooner buy a piece of shit Kia.

That said - if I buy a next car, I'd really like something I can plug in, since - other than road trips - I don't regularly travel more than 30 miles at a crack.

True dat. Thought the fuckers were going to haul me off to Buchenwald for not having my transit pass on me when they were doing random checks.
