For a government concerned about right-wing groups, I can understand the concern about vets. There are plenty of people in the militia movement who used to be in the military. I guess certain people take their vow of defending the constitution from foreign and domestic threats very seriously.

I'm honestly more afraid of the federal government than I am of these groups. Militia groups can't destroy my future or take away my rights. Ditto with Al Qaeda and "dem raghead Ay-rabs".

Col Hogan wrote:Sorry, I've been on the road...getting to lurk and post a little yesterday...reading this story as it developed...

I've also read the entire DHS report (for the record, the DHS was the hughest power grab ever by the Federal Government, and may go down as the worse mistake Bush made...worse than Iraq...but another thread on that later)...

TALK ABOUT AN F'IN MOUNTAIN OUT OF A MOLE HILL...

I'm a member of the American Legion...I'm thinking of quitting over this...

This report is good intelligence work by LE...nothing more...veterans are on of the target groups for right-wing extremists...thats a fact!!!

No where does the report say ALL VETERANS are even inclined to join such groups...Even the VFW has come out and said it has no problem with this report...

Look...I'm fairly conservative...I hate Bush and almost all he did...and Obama for all he's doing...yet you have to admit our law enforcement has done a damn good job against both domestic and foreign terrorists over the years...compared to Europe and the Middle East, we've been pretty safe...and it's because we have dedicated people working hard every day(no thanks to DHS)...and they NEED THIS TYPE OF INTELLIGENCE just to remind them of what they are looking for...

The Obama Administration, through the actions of DHS Secretary Napolitano, wussed out with that weak apology today...there was no apology necessary...

You're all going wacko, I hope you understand...
I've also read the report and found it to be short on fact and long on conjecture.

Rep. Bennie Thompson stated it aptly when he explained that it's inappropriate to be classifying Americans as "potential threats" based upon their political thoughts...stereotyping...which the report had even acknowledged was more close to the reality of the case for most included within the report's "categorization".

Most of the "facts" provided, drew from historical incidents, most over a decade old, and only included a couple recent "incidents" to validate their assertion.

Truth is, the report was prepared with the purpose of "increasing the drumbeat" of vilification of those they categorize as being "right wing". All this is being done to ameliorate the impact of later actions targeted at increasing pressure to silence the "right wing". Period.

It was a politically motivated hit piece, with little value to L.E., who have always been aware of the potential threat posed by "fringe" citizenry who possess military training or knowledge (Lee Harvey Oswald, Charles Whitman...etc...)

Throw up your generalization flag Cap'n. I can't speak for all but I deal with many and this is just bullshit! You want to know why they think this? Most former military are against the war in Iraq and I would guess that makes them, "right wing extremists." Vet's are the least of thier worries...I'd worry about the racists fucks.

all the report says is what ANYONE WHO STUDIES THIS STUFF WILL TELL YOU.

look at biker gangs... derived HEAVILY from ex-military guys... look at current militia/paramilitary types... you basically have two types in those groups... ex-service men and wannabe warriors. they actively recruit ex-military guys. all of that is accurate.

you then add the historical lesson that when there is a Democratic president, these groups are more active... look at the 90's... add to that the fact that the new President is black... likely exacerbates the issue. it's a simple advisory, these groups are growing in size, and their rhetoric is growing more bombastic... that's a fact.

to extrapolate from this that DHS "suspects every veteran" or that "conservatives" (a word NEVER USED IN THE REPORT) in general are subjects of investigation are leaps of logic and conjecture made by people seeking some sort of political edge from it... but it's complete bullshit... and they know it... but mountains from molehills are the things upon which talkshows are built...

You're right. In your fcking world. Lord God almighty.

What bullsh*t,T. Hey, if there is smoke about these people, there's bound to be fire. Mind if we just increase awareness a bit before the next McVeigh comes home?

And again, illogical Conk extremes abound in your message. You'd think the left was preparing to tattoo and insert GPS chips into the shoulders of returning vets.

Jesus.
