CONGRESS TACKLING THE ISSUES

Post by Ibanez »

Congress is holding hearings on the BCS this week. Please overcome the urge to roll the eyes and upchuck your lunch.
They are tackling the issues that affect all of us.

Actually, this is quite under the scope of Congress. The BCS is a big business monopoly. Hundreds of millions of dollars worth.

If it were another industry that did the same tactics, Congress would investigate as well.

False outrage.

Oh I bet, but in the midst of a flu, the economy and the final season of Monk, there are more important issues than this bullshit.

BCS on trial

Post by wkuhillhound »

Most congressman agree that a playoff is best. Surprise, surprise, and so do I. Without a playoff WKU would have never won its first and only athletic national championship in 2002. Go get'em Congress. The bully BCS needs to RIP.

Swofford's argument against a playoff is that it would ruin the historic tradition of the bowl system. Yeah right, OK. I guarantee you that UK would trade their 2 Music City Bowl victories for a chance at a national championship. A playoff is the best remedy for that chance to happen period.

I'm with Mark on this one. There are a lot of issues far more important than the BCS. And a true leader would focus on what is important first rather than pandering based on a bunch of letters and the desire to preen in front of the media.
Being wrong about a topic is called post partisanism - kalm

MAQA - putting the Q into qrazy qanon qult qonspiracy theories since 2015.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

Joe Barton (R-Texas) was the host of the committee hearing... and oddly, i dont really see how his committee that he's ranking member of has any jurisdiction on this issue.

UK wins the SEC they have a shot at a title, and that means they'll have no less than one loss. Beating UGA, UF, LSU, Alabama. They know their path from jump street. I'll give you Utah, but no way a team in a BCS conference should ever try that arguement. I can't believe you went there.

It's all about the money. Congress cares about money. The BCS cares about money. If you don't care about money then you are not an American.

...and the alternative is...??!??

I do not want the FCS, where championships are earned, to lose its market niche.

I am also really cool with BCS football paying for itself, other sports, libraries, etc.

I guess when you spend other people's money and not your own, it's OK NOT to care about the money?!??

There are lots of people (believe it or not) that don't really care about money...
Wedgebuster's point is valid - money is what motivates politics - money is the American Dream...
- Big 10 Football - So boring Wisconsin is our most exciting team...
- Big 10 Football - Where 117th ranked Purdue is dominant...
- Big 10 Football - Where team speed and passing offense are not required...
