got an update from a buddy in Missouri - i didn't realize Bond was out... it's now an open seat, and moderate dem Russ Carnahan is the frontrunner for the D side... move this race in to the toss up category.

fact is, the gop has more ground to lose... moreover their party is breaking apart, and the libertarians and the evangelicals are going to spend the next few years fighting for control of the apparatus.

While all the normal Conks walk away shaking their heads, going Democrat.

RIP the GOP.

Thune is probably solid in SD. Don't let the other congressman and the rep fool you. Thune is a by-God born-again republican in a by-God born-again state. I was shocked he wasn't tapped for VP.

i've got him as a leaner mostly owing to good early recruiting efforts by SD dems... it's a tough beat, but the gop is going to be resource thin, and the dems should have the money to pump in to an affordable state to potentially make things interesting.

it bears noting that of the 6 members of congress from the dakotas... only one is GOP... this is not a mistake.

red state dems have had a lot of success - and if the gop and thune rest on their laurels, they could get beat

that said - most leaners end up safe.

I wouldsn't pencil in a dem for NC in place of Burr just yet. While NC is a strong Dem on statewide elections, this past election was an anomoly with national seats. While our demographics have changed since the days of Helms, it is still a conservative southern state. Burr isn't divisive nor is he a carpetbagger like Dole......Dole's decision to use a Rovian tactic of questioning Hagan's religious beliefs cost her the election in the last two weeks.....it was very tight until then....Burr's not a bad guy and has very strong support in western part of the state outside of Boone and Asheville, the only two strong blue areas in the west....

We'll be fine because the liberals can't help but **** all over themselves when they get power and the country quickly tires of their schtick.
