Huh? How is the Republican party not relevant? They have the majority in both houses of Congress and hold more than 3/5 of the governor's mansions. The only thing they don't have is the Presidency. Democrats crowing about how the Republican party is "a ...laughingstock" and "...blows away like dust..." are ignoring the truth on the ground - the Republicans are winning more state elections and more national elections than the Democrats are. I'm an independent, but it's clear that the Dems are closing their eyes to reality if they think they can just walk into any election, call Republicans the party of bigots (even if it's true), and coast to victory.

And be careful what you wish for - if we did go to a Parliamentary form of government (ironic that a Democrat like yourself is advocating that, party founders like Madison and Jefferson would be rolling over in their graves to hear you back what was basically Hamilton's idea at the founding) it would just give more power to the Republicans since they hold majority status in both houses of Congress despite no longer being relevant.
In the sense that they have nothing to offer except an Implacable Opposition to Anything the President Supports. And more free rides for billionaires and mega-corporations on the backs of what is left of the middle class.
You just described the Democratic Party from 2000-2008.

And yet they keep getting elected time and time again, enough that they control both houses of Congress and a historically large number of governorships. And it's not just billionaires and mega corporations voting for them, it's the same middle class that you say doesn't exist anymore. Again, if we moved to a Parliamentary system, like you want, that would eliminate the only thing that Democrats are currently still winning, and that being the Executive branch.

I agree with CID that the Hildabeast isn't going to flame out, but my God even the Donks hate her. Half of the people who will actually vote for her don't think she's trustworthy. She doesn't inspire anyone. Aside from single women who only vote with their vagina, people will have to be dragged kicking and screaming to go vote for her. Obama only won because social conservatives stayed home and the black vote. He was an inspiration and had the "it" factor that resonated. Sorry, but they aren't going to waste their time with Hillary.

Donks have been losing governorships left and right for years, and because of that there is nobody on the bench. Obama was a hail mary and they scored on the first possession of the game, but we're closing in on halftime and they are getting pounded. Identity politics has killed the Donks. They wanted their first black president, and screwed Hillary in the process. She would have beaten McCain in 2008 easily and then Obama could have waltzed right on in behind her. Now, it's Hillary or bust with nobody on deck.

It's not just the Right, Clitzorus.

Hillary Clinton has never been more unpopular
Bad news for Hillary Clinton: While she holds a massive lead over Bernie Sanders, with 55 percent of Democratic voters saying they'd pick her in the primaries, compared to just 17 percent for the Vermont socialist, Clinton is only viewed favorably by a mere 40 percent of those polled by Quinnipiac University. Fifty-one percent view her unfavorably. That's Clinton's worst rating in the history of Quinnipiac's poll. Cue the Beltway critics:

That would make sense if the GOP always had majority status in both houses, but those are only recent gains, along with the many governor's races they won. All that winning and moving from minority to majority status in those areas flies in the face of your point that the GOP is no longer relevant. While you're saying they no longer matter politically and are falling apart as a party, they are winning everywhere.

So tell me why, then, the GOP has picked up seats in the House of Representatives and turned a Democratic majority into a GOP majority? How have they taken a Democratic majority in the Senate and turned that into a GOP majority? How have the GOP won 31 of the 50 governor seats? How does the GOP have control of 31 of the state Senates and 33 of the state House of Reps? What solid ground are you on? You are saying the GOP is no longer a viable party and yet they have sweeping control of the Federal Legislative branch, and they dominate about 3/5 of all state governments. None of that was supposed to be possible in this day and age but apparently the GOP is doing remarkably well for a party with no relevance.

It's true simply because it is true. I give you facts, you give me platitudes. While you're joyously proclaiming the death of a political party, that same political party has gone about and dominated every level of government, with the lone exception being the Presidency. The Democrats like to look to the future and say the electorate is in the favor, probably because they don't want to look at the present where, with the exception of the Presidency, they are the party that is regressing at all other levels.

It's not like there's any real ideas coming out of the Democratic side of things either. Their modus is to simply blame the billionaires and giant corporations for all that ails us, as evidenced by your parroting of their speaking points. Neither party is strong on ideas at this point in time.

When job approval equals election results then your graph will be relevant. Holding your breath would not be wise, however.

Oh, and they have strangleholds on most state governments (legislatures and executives) as well. So yeah, just those few things.

If that were true they wouldn't be offering a slate of circus midgets as candidates for the highest office. :ohno:

Neither party is strong on ideas at this point in time.
lost Obama care, lost womens vote, lost latino vote. Fact.

lost the popular vote in five of the last six elections. Fact.

Where is this majority that all these governors and congressholes represent? Note at the voting booth evidently. :coffee:
You matter. Unless you multiply yourself by c squared. Then you energy.

When job approval equals election results then your graph will be relevant. Holding your breath would not be wise, however.

Oh, and they have strangleholds on most state governments (legislatures and executives) as well. So yeah, just those few things.

I think Republicans have control of the state governments that reflect their core tenets
I don't see things nearly as lopsided as is being reflected on either side of this debate

I guess if Republicans gained control of Washington State and Oregon and Vermont
Then I'd have to start shifting my perspective to match one of these debates here
Q: Name something that offends Republicans?
A: The actual teachings of Jesus

Where do you think governors and state legislatures and the federal Congress come from? Elections. How are the GOP winning, and at such wide margins (again 31 out of 50 governors, 33 out of 50 state senates, 34 out of 50 state houses of reps, 245 out of 435 in the House, 54 out of 100 in the Senate) and how are they taking control away from Dems (as was done in Congress) if they are failing at the election polls? The answer is, the Dems are winning the Presidential elections (and just the election of the President in those), and nothing else. The problem for the Dems, is, that the nothing else represents the lionshare of the government in the US these days.
