Talking about inflation and the eventual devaluation of the dollar, someone posted this link to this "blovel" on the Geauxcowboys.com messageboard last month. It is all just fiction, but once I started reading it, I couldn't quit until I finished.
It is fiction and none of this would probably never happen, but it is a fun read and will make you think.

P.S. I can barely pay for my own health insurance right now, so I guess when I go bankrupt paying for everybody elses' that can't afford it, someone else will have to pay for mine. That's if there is anybody else left with money to pay for it. I'm sure when inflation kicks in from us overspending and printing money, everything will cheaper, right??? But I'm not concerned, I'm sure the government will take care of me.
We are here to help you!!! Yeah, right!!!

I don't know why my fellow conservatives are all up in arms about this. The President, the Speaker of the House and a bunch of really smart people in Washington have assured us that this bill will:
1. Provide healthcare coverage for everyone
2. Reduce the Federal defecit
3. Lower health insurance premiums
If this bill can do all three, that's wonderful!
Any of you Liberals care to make a wager on it accomplishing only 2 of the 3?

This all sounds great in theory, but I'm in the "wait and see" crowd. I like the idea and support it, but we'll see how it goes in action. If it works, great, in theory it has more pros than cons. If it doesn't work, scrap it. Other things that can happen include AZ's worst case scenario rants on this thread, and you could probably find an equal amount of people to wager on those too. Doctors salaries dropping, quality of health care dropping, taxes increase, national debt increase, etc. If Americans are angry, there will be a mass vote out this fall and maybe congress will do something to stop the health care bill. I assume throughout the history of the United States, congress has never passed a "No Takesy Backsy" amendment?

It's no secret there are exemptions to the mandate, Hen. So, not sure why anyone would take that bet.
It's supposed to cover ~95% of Americans.

Ooo 600 billion in 20 years. We could save 1.3 trillion in 1 year if we axed Medicare/medicaid and SSI and an addition 350 billion if we cut offense spending in half and focused on national Defense. At that rate we could have the debt paid off in 8 years then drastically cut taxes.Skjellyfetti wrote:Even if the CBO estimates are a good bit off... let's say 50% off. That's still $600 billion in savings. Sounds good to me.JoltinJoe wrote:Whether the CBO estimates prove accurate, who knows. But if you want to call this an "investment,' we still do not have the money right now to make this investment.
Frankly, this is like investing on margin because your broker tells you that a stock is going to return 100% of your investment over a specified time period.

Ok, then I'll take the bet if we can establish how we define success for each of the three points and when we determine success. As I've said earlier in the thread, I don't think you'll be able to until 2014 at the earliest, though.89Hen wrote:Fine jelly. You may input 95% in there or whatever number you like. I don't doubt that more people will be covered. That's why I asked if you think any TWO of these will come true. Way to sidestep the point.

Swap those federal programs for state programs. States like Mass and California can have universal state healthcare if they want and can tax accordingly.danefan wrote:Honest question - how would that work?GSUhooligan wrote:
