Honestly, the media is the biggest villain in the story. And they're not going to face any repercussions.

Sounds like the state's attorneys didn't find a need to pursue the case for jail time & settled for him agreeing to do community service. Will white Republicans in Chicago now stage rallies that parallel Ferguson anti-police rallies? CNN will be on top of it....

I can see that. There really is no reason to jail somebody like this, but given his profession, perhaps the community service could be on TV with proceeds going to Chicago city neighborhoods. Would love to see him picking up trash, serving food at a shelter, etc...

He did agree to foreit the bond that was posted ($100,000 - normally just post $10k so that's what the state is pocketing) as part of the condition to drop the charges.

As always, the ultimate true privilege in society, above all others, is the privilege of affluence. Rich people get all the breaks.

Oh, good comments on this. The two I liked were "I hope he doesn't beat himself up too badly about all of this" and "hey, R Kelly might actually have a chance now".

That I don't understand: a man stages a racist attack which flares up racial tension, lies to the police all so he can get publicity and the prosecutor just drops the charges? People go to jail for a lot less. His punishment is $10k and 16 hours working for Jesse Jackson. :dunce: PLUS, the records are sealed. There is something fishy. And listening to CNN yesterday, there are a lot of angry people out there.

Many, and rightfully so, say this sets a dangerous precedent.

The utter lack of transparency as to why someone isn't being held accountable for their actions is frustrating. What's to stop me from doing the same thing and walking away with a slap on the wrist (other then the fact that i'm neither black, famous or gay?)

false equivalence

It’s no wonder you think the way you do

law enforcement has already said he concocted the whole thing

The actual equivalence would be if Mueller said Trump actually did conspire with Russians to throw the election, and then the AG elected not to do anything about it

The interview with the prosecutor was just pure gold. Basically, they're too busy to worry about crimes like this - can't prosecute every criminal. :dunce:

Kim Foxx cleans Jussie Smollett up, the Chicago Way
Rahm Emanuel is precise with his word weapons. Even when angry, he pauses and considers the meaning and context of each thrust, unlike his predecessor, who babbled and blurted.

Emanuel used “whitewash” about half a dozen times at his news conference. It was no accident.

“And it sends a clear message that if you’re in a position of influence and power you’ll get treated one way. Other people will be treated another way,” Emanuel said. “There is no accountability in the system. It is wrong. Full stop.”

It was a clear political indictment of a fellow Democrat who climbed up the ladder of identity politics.
