What’s next for you? Saudi boot-licking in a PNAC proxy war? Been there – doing that.

This is a crappy situation and Trump did not handle it well.

On one hand, the Kurds are one of the few groups in the ME that have earned a level of loyalty and support.

On the other, Western nations have been seriously mucking around in the ME since WWI and we've fvcked it up. What would the world look like if the West had allowed self-determination and not created artificial boundaries. We can't undo the past but doing the same thing over and over isn't going to change the paradigm. We might be better off getting out and letting the region determine its own future.

One of the things that I most appreciate about Trump's approach is that he is bucking the status quo and IMO that's a good thing.

Pretty much this, except Trump is a know-nothing, carnival-barking ass who only
'makes the best deals' (rolling eyes). The First Balkan War and WWI because of the 'Colonial' partition of the Ottoman Empire have ewed-scrayed the World for 100 years.

Ding!

Pure speculation, but President 'Makes The Best Deals' Trumpolini provided cover for Erdogan (nod-nod wink-wink) to silence critics of the Saudi implicitly in the assassination of Jamal Khashoggi.

I'm thinkin' we will never hear a peep about that from Erdogan, again, nor about the **latest** troop build-up in SA (i.e., Kuwait).

Does anybody here agree with Trump sending troops to Saudi Arabia?

:dunce:
Erdogan’s Ambitions Go Beyond Syria. He Says He Wants Nuclear Weapons.
Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, wants more than control over a wide swath of Syria along his country’s border. He says he wants the Bomb.

In the weeks leading up to his order to launch the military across the border to clear Kurdish areas, Mr. Erdogan made no secret of his larger ambition. “Some countries have missiles with nuclear warheads,” he told a meeting of his governing party in September. But the West insists “we can’t have them,” he said. “This, I cannot accept.”

With Turkey now in open confrontation with its NATO allies, having gambled and won a bet that it could conduct a military incursion into Syria and get away with it, Mr. Erdogan’s threat takes on new meaning. If the United States could not prevent the Turkish leader from routing its Kurdish allies, how can it stop him from building a nuclear weapon or following Iran in gathering the technology to do so?

It was not the first time Mr. Erdogan has spoken about breaking free of the restrictions on countries that have signed the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, and no one is quite sure of his true intentions. The Turkish autocrat is a master of keeping allies and adversaries off balance, as President Trump discovered in the past two weeks.
...
So ...
The "40 to 50" US Troops fighting ISIS with the Kurkish Peshmerga in Syria were redeployed to fight ISIS in Iraq, SA/Kuwait/Iraq has expanded its US troop deployment to 18K+ this year, and Turkey with Rootin' Tootin' Pootin is eradicating "Kurdistan"

President Cut&Run and the GOP PNAC WET DREAM strike again ...

"A Night of Prayer for the Kurds" - Trump hotel cancels Christian aid group's event to support the Kurds
The group planned to hold the event after Trump's recent decision to remove U.S. troops from the northeastern border of Syria. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan followed Trump's announcement by initiating a military offensive into Syria to fight the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a group Erdoğan believes to be an enemy of Turkey.
